| Antigonus Gonadus: 83-123 Obituary
Prince Antigonus Gonadus was born in the year 83 in Alansburg, a scion of the Royal House of Alan, the current ruling dynasty of the Pontic Empire. He was the firstborn of Mithradates, Emperor of Pontus, by Mithradates? second wife, Berengaria. Antigonus was first in line for the Imperial Pontic Throne after the children of Mithradates? first wife, Anais of the House of Niksar of Anatolia. The current Emperor, Shalman (b 100), is the youngest of the children of Mithradates and Anais. The others are: Iagodates (b 80, d 82), Roxani (b 85 d 108), Tontodates (b 85 d 108) and Shapur (b 95 d 100)
Antigonus had a younger sister, Ate, born in 100, who married Macalix, the ruler of Galatia and a satrap of the Emperor. Their son, Tacalix Mithranes was born in 118.
By the time of the double-murders in 108 of the twins Roxani and Tontodates, Antigonus was therefore next in line after Shalman for the Imperial Pontic throne. He was educated in the Alansburg Military Academy. He became Emir of Alansburg, before being appointed in 109 as satrap of Van.
In the same year he married Vashti, sister of the then ruler of Chaldea, Mustasha. In 114, some time after the disappearance of Shalman, Antigonus lay claim to the Imperial Throne, but withdrew his claim after Shalman reappeared. His last appointment had been as Satrap of Thrace. The looting of Thrace in summer 122 by Kublai, the ruler of the Huns was rumoured to have been authorised by Emperor Shalman.
At the ides of Dormon 123 Antigonus was poisoned by his personal physician (who immediately committed suicide). Antigonus passed away later in the month. He is survived by his wife, Vashti, and their 13-year old son, Demetriaces.
