(Spread it around as well if you like to other freinds) Quote:
When an active and interested member of our beta program refers their friends, associates, relatives and/or cuddly house pets, we do tend to take a closer look at those applications. Mostly because we like you. <3
That being said, there are a few different ways to get this done. For now, let's take a moment to outline the very best way for you to bring a potential beta applicant to our attention, while at the same time, making sure not to get you in any kind of NDA trouble in the process.
1. Always feel free to share your enthusiasm with others! The tricky part is doing this without letting them know you are in beta. But let's be honest here - we realize that it might be difficult to keep your partner, husband, wife or roommate in the dark about your participation in the PotBS beta - the best solution for this? Get them involved as well!
2. So you've shared your excitement about PotBS, and now your friends, partners and cuddly house pets want in on the action. The next step is to send them to our forum and make them register for an account! You can do that by sending them to this address: http://www.flyinglab.com/forums/regi...&action=signup
This is important, because without a forum account, they will not be able to fill out a beta application. Once they've finished registering their forum name, it is on to the next step...
3. Have them fill out a beta application. The application is the most important part of the process, because it gives us a sense of who they are, who they know, and whether or not their system can handle running the game. They'll find the application by visiting this link: http://www.flyinglab.com/pirates/beta.php
Make sure they submit a DXDIAG from the machine they plan to use when testing PotBS. The DXDIAG is the ONLY source of information we have to judge whether or not their rig is appropriate for testing. So if they apply from their laptop or their work computer, they run the risk of both being accepted and not being able to test, or being rejected, when in actuality, their home rig is well suited to the task. In the end, it is important for you to communicate this to your prospective referral- while they are free to apply, there is always the risk that their machine won't cut the mustard. Feel free to cut and paste this information directly to any potential applicant:
Minimum System Requirements for PotBS Beta Testers: Windows Sytem XP/Vista, 1.5 GHz or AMD Athlon 1.5 GHz, with 512 MB or more of RAM, 128 MB 3D video card supporting Pixelshader 2.0 and a broadband connection.
If you have questions regarding the specifics of your video card, you will want to go the website of your card's manufacturer, and perform a search on "<your videocard> pixel shader". You may also find some additional information regarding your specific card at http://www.beyond3d.com/misc/chipcomp/.
Unfortunately, not everyone that applies for beta will be accepted. We use several factors to determine whether someone qualifies as a better tester, not the least of which is if your computer meets the minimum system requirements listed in answer 1.03. While you do not necessarily have to have previous beta testing experience, the quality of your application certainly improves your chances of being accepted. So take care when it comes time to fill out your beta application, as it is the only tool we've got to determine whether or not you would make a good beta tester.
Another important consideration: Your referral will want to mention they’re your friend, guildmate or hedgehog, as well as include specific reference to which guild they’re a part of.
4. So, we've filled out a forum account, we've submitted a well written and informative beta application with the appropriate DXDIAG report attached - so now what?
If you've got one friend you would like to add, you would send their first and last name, the name they chose on our forums, and the email address they used to fill out the beta application, to info@flyinglab.com, using the following format:
Email Subject: Potential Beta Tester/s from (yournamehere)
Name: Johnny Beta
Forum Name: TinyMonkey
Email: TinyMonkey@minisimi.com
But, what if you've got more than one friend? Like... an entire guild of friends? Then you would make sure they have completed the steps above, then collect ALL of their information in the preferred format (again, see above). Then you would send all their information in one single email to info@flyinglab.com. Please, please, please don't send us 15 names in 13 different emails, because doing it that way makes it difficult for us to track, and also, very, very sad. (This is us -> )
