Got a message from Kiran to say that the loyalists were mustering in Vesper.
Grabbed a handful of Kaldorians and went to see what was going down.
Sure enough, there were a lot there: Britannia Guards, Yew militia, Marksmen, and heaven knows what else.
We had Kiran and a few Covians there – enough to make a dent, but not enough to push the loyalists back to their camp.
I took a blow to the temple that made me see stars, but after a short breather I was alright to continue.
Regrouped at the tents, and then mounted a second assault. This time the loyalists were dealt with. The initial assault had thinned their numbers enough that we could handle them on the second attempt.
I may not be the youngest or the fastest or the strongest, but damn, I love the battle. I ran into the enemy formation to take down a mage, but Raza was with me, and he fell. The look of surprise on his face was something to behold.
Raza enjoys this war. I feel His approval. It is gratifying to have spilled enough enemy blood not to have to give my own.
The men enjoy it too. They fight with new found discipline. If only that damned enforcer would see it! He thinks we are a rabble, but he is wrong. It is not discipline that the men need, but war. War give them purpose. Purpose gives them focus and motivation. For too long we have festered in the south, paralysed by indecision.
Now that we have put aside old rivalries, we will be strong again. We will silence the critics from home, and show them that we can succeed. |
