Piracy killed the video game star

Piracy, Imagine Software and the Megagames — Bruce On Games

Meet Bruce Everiss, he has been in the video game industry for years and years and used to work for Imagine who went bust in the mid 80's. Bruce claims that it was piracy that forced the company to close and today piracy is still crippling the industry. His account of what happend back then does indeed point piracy out to be the bad guy and how its killing the industry, then along comes Stuart Campbell

Now Stuart can be a bit of a cock at times, but having bought every issue of Amiga Power he is still a bit of a legend to me and he rips the guy to pieces.

Poor old bruce then follows it up with this garbage, Game piracy — Bruce On Games and reply number 25 sums up the whole piracy argument perfectly.

Its amazing this guy has a job in marketing video games as he clearly has no clue who his custormers are or why people pirate games. Imagine were the biggest publisher for the spectrum and went bust, if it was piracy that caused the biggest to go bust how come 25 years after piracy exploded the games industry just keeps on getting bigger.

Clearly piracy exists but is it harming the industry, are people who pirate games actualy going to buy the game in the first place so is it a lost sale?

Dunno if there is a point to all this, just wanted to rant a bit
