I found that J.R.R.RRRRRRRR(Grrr?) Tolkien just drew every scene out far too much, and that choping 2/3 of it would have made it much better, I think that's why I liked the films - same story minus the waffle. I liked the Hobbit, so was suprised by the sleep inducing trillogy that continued the story of the ring.
