It will more than likely be the motherboard, I've had a total of 2 dead on arrival CPU's in 3 years of being in the shop. Heat wise? Possible but not likely. As long as you're fitting the CPU correctly (intel processors go corner to corner, I hate the design of them) it will usually post, then randomly cut out. My money is it being on just a faulty motherboard
