I'll be playing (pre-ordered already) mainly for the different PvP aspects and secondary maybe, the RP. Will be however on a RP/PVP server...to hide from the lawlkkthx people as best I can.

I blame Sanch if I find myself playing that game when it's out!

tbh i would sooo bum this game off, but i would have to write loads, check out the game features for yaself its basically a next gen mmo (aka WAR or WoW2) set in a mature theme and ruleset (think rp and pvp possibilities here, much akin to felucca) so basically rp will be much easier then in wow (man i miss inter guild warfare) then add onto that rp cities(built by players) and siege warfare between those rp cities and you have the kinda benefits of next gen mmo planning (they really do learn from mistakes mostly, after all they wanna get customers).

Not to mention a PHAT lore(conan anyone? - ARNIEEE) made by the creators of a game i didnt like myself but kilsek (aka torune) bummed called like, meh i forget but its got a cool writer who actually wrote good storylines for p&c adventure games, i just dont like p&c games but the storyline was actually good.

and man the devs seemed to have sorted alot of the bugs and stuff out atm that were in the beta, which looks promising for the future (think devs that fix bugs) Vook got into the beta and apparently they sorted out alot of the bugs in a recent patch he said "its like a whole new game". So im not worried about the game long term (i am looking at jumping onto a newly released game and playing it hard so its gotta be one that will receive good develpoer support).

okay so i am actually ranting a lil about how cool this game will be so ill stop, the feature set tho is amazing for both pvp and rp, shud definately check this game out guys.

Quote:
iege warfare was brought into Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures because Funcom as developers wanted to give players that epic feeling of being part of a large-scale battle. We have all watched movies like Braveheart, 300, Kingdom of Heaven – all these epic battle movies – and we realized how amazing it would be to bring that into a massive online game. So we did, naturally.

If you ever open a Conan book or comic, you quickly realize that war rages across the ravaged surface of Hyboria. Conflicts are not so much an exception as it is a fact of life, not necessarily between the nations themselves, but often between factions residing within their troubled borders.

In Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures player guilds will sooner or later end up in such conflicts with each other. Once a guild reaches a reasonable size and stature on a server, the opportunity to own a battlekeep will soon arise. But with only a limited number of battlekeeps per server allowed, guilds will have to war against each other in order to secure the power and fortune for themselves.

We built this city on bloody soil

Through the thick morning fog of the Border Kingdom the early sounds of human activity can be heard. Hammering, sawing, shouting. Everyone is doing their part. Crafters scurry around the work site while planning with the Lords and the Ladies of the guild, and mercenaries protect the guild members as they bring back timber and iron to be used in the construction of the battlekeep.

Should you happen to come upon an available site for a battlekeep, or should you manage to bring down another guild's battlekeep, your guild will have to start constructing its own. This involves gathering resources, erecting buildings and making sure everything is sufficiently protected.

Each building within your battlekeep will grant a bonus that will affect some or all members of your guild. Buildings include the blacksmith, the temple, the alchemist workshop, the university and more. While the temple may benefit healing classes within your guild, the university might provide a bonus for all spell casting classes and your guild will need to prioritize what to build.

«Constructing a battlekeep might take anything from a few hours to several days,» says Game Designer Jason Stone. «You will need to carefully choose what buildings you want as you can’t necessarily build everything, and you must also focus on building the walls required to keep your enemies out and your buildings safely protected. You can build several lines of defenses.»

Sounding the bells of war

Thundering hooves can be heard in the distance. The sound of war is approaching. A nameless enemy musters its forces. The guards of the battlekeep, slumbering uneasily with one eye open jump to their feet. Someone is knocking on the gate – it's like the drums of doom. Blood will soak the fields beyond their walls today, and only Crom knows who will come out of it alive.

If you ever find yourself in the possession of a battlekeep you will sooner or later have to face the fact that someone will try and take it from you. The good thing is that you, as a defender, will be able to more or less determine when your battlekeep will be vulnerable for attack, something that ensures that you will always have the upper hand and that there will be no nasty surprises.

«If your battlekeep were vulnerable for attack all the time, that would soon prove to be very frustrating to players,» says Stone. «Instead the guild determines when it's attackable. You choose your own vulnerability window, and the bigger it is, the more benefits your guild receives from owning the battlekeep. Still, no one is safe: Everyone needs to be vulnerable at some point.»

The actual siege is initiated when a guild set up a war tent outside the other guild's battlekeep within its vulnerability window, effectively declaring war on it. The defenders will need to muster their forces just as much as the attackers will have to, and from there it's surely survival of the fittest!

Beta went open on 21st I think, 50k accounts only...and well...downloading the file..isnt high on my priority at the moment..dread to think about the size of it.

Think when you pre-order you get the game sent out slightly earlier (from what I can gather anyway) and can access the full game 1-2 days beforehand.

Pre-ordered and waiting eagerly for release. I've played the beta for a few months now and it really has come on leaps and bounds in terms of bug fixes/crashes/fps rates etc.

The lore and the world itself is what really stood out for me, such marvelous attention to detail.

The combat system is really good, once you get used to it. At first I thought it was a bit cumbersome but it grew on me, and as you progress and get new options it really comes into its own.

Another nice thing they have is that when your lvling from 1-20 you have a "day/night" option. In daytime your out with everyone else doing your quests(some really nice ones, story driven, not a lot of "kill 20 rats in the sewers" crap) but at night time you do you Destiny quests, not to give too much away, but its basically single player mode where you really get into your charachter and the lore.

Guilds are very important, building certain types of buildings give "buffs" to members, and to ensure everyone chips in, the guild leader can set a tax rate for members, ensuring a portion of what they loot goes to guild!

Anyway, see you all in Hyboria!!

Token Irish guy.

I was planning on playing this...however, as Funcom are one of our clients, I've found out from them I will need a new PC as sticking more RAM in old faithful isn't going to cut it (currently have a 2.3 Athlon...and you'll need more power for AoC).
They are also being forced to rush it out...nice as it is, it's likely to be a bit buggy to begin with, and there's a 4 Gig patch on launch day...which will be fun. :/

I've pre-ordered AoC. But if what Cal says is anything to go by my computer might struggle a little as i've only got a 2.1 athlon - but LOTRO ran incredibly well, so I thought AoC might?

Anyway, we'll see.

I'll be there though and looking forward to it!

My old comp blew up...new ones quad core...so hopefully..I'm laughing. Looking at the testy thing I've done...should be anyway.

Bugs and stuff...most new games'll have 'em these days...I'll live through it :P pre-ordering people are getting the (apparent) 3 days headstart anyway...so that should ease "some" of the patch stuff too

Regarding people worried their machine wont run the game, dont worry! If your comp can handle it- yeah you can have 4-5 levels of textures, full bloom, hell you can set it so you see your reflection in shiny surfaces(true dat:P). This level of detail is there for those who can handle it, its not a requirement. Its like driving down the motorway, wether you in a golf or a ferrari, you still gonna get to your destination, and get there easily.

If your comp cant handle full settings, its no problem, turn down the settings, it will still blow your mind, compared to wow, graphics wise.

Regarding Funcom being rushed to release, this I agree with. Game is still quite buggy and unstable in beta at present. In my opinion should have delayed another month or so to iron out final creases.
