Mature Rating

Why do people seem to think this will have any major effect on the amount of kids in the game?

Been reading it across various forums

Do they not understand that young Kids will get it anyway, the same way they get every other game?

Mebbe the 'Mature rating' tag means people will feel alot easier about the way they react/speak in the game as they have the 'well its mature rating so ye was warned' excuse.

I think they're trying to use it as a selling point...

There were 13 year olds playing UO, back when it was mature... But attitudes overall were still more mature.
So, it may have an effect on the number of tards running around, but conversely, the promise of mature violence may attract some.

Ultimately, I think it's more a sales line.
When you're reading something about it, and getting deja-vu every other line, because they keep plugging the mature rating... *sigh*

I will use the mature rating as an excuse to act like an adult, and not having to make choises in the way i act based on the fact that it most certainly will be a kiddie on the other side of the screen.. Sure, a bit lying to myself, but hell, its not my job to monitor the kids, its Funcoms..

Edit: Or what pala said.. ^^
