A few more generalities...

Without easy access to a Euro server, I'm spending my time on the unofficial US RP-PVE server Wicciana after a start on Dagoth. I'm told that playing on the RP-PVP servers is ...challenging, and since I'm basically playing solo, I figure the PVE environment will be an easier way to see the game.

I have yet to see anyone RP even slightly. Heck, I haven't even seen anyone talk ...

But spending some time looking at boards, there does seem to be some little enclaves of RP forming, so I think there's hope.

The biggest problem for me is that the game still crashes way too often for real immersion.

- Im guessing thats because most people are still levellign like crazy and not have enough time to talk/role play.

Heck I remember in my first few months of UO all I saw were people dashing around everywhere and finding anyone to talk to was pretty problematic.

There are plenty of folk moving to AoC from lots of games so we will see how it turns out.

Oh and good luck to all you f4ggers who are in AoC - looks liek a great concept you have here!

I think i've been a bit daft tbh my computer runs oblivion so well i kind of though that it would cope with AoC, but by the looks of it there's no way it'll work. boo! and i don't have the funds to upgrade - my computers motherboard is running at the max so to upgrade means buying a whole new setup..

when i get home i'll look into it more and if it's not going to be possible then i may have a look at pirates of the burning sea. i had a friend on that who said it looked very impressive! and i do love pirates

I found several people roleplaying in the Serpent tavern in Khemi which was good. The nice thing about the Khemi, the Stygian capital, is that the seating is done on cushions on the ground which is good, since we can't use chairs yet. Nice bacjground music and veiled courtesans dancing.

My main is Hassan, a stygian assassin. I'll also be doing some levelling soon on Gaius, an Acquillonian Dark Templar.

Pirates of the Burning Sea seems to have crashed and burned, unfortunately. It opened with 11 servers, recently merged to 4 and still has low population issues. A shame, I quite like it but from what I gather it's too easy to 'exploit' the port contention and is too much of a grind making money for pvp. Time will tell if they turn it around or not.

I was investigating my computer hardware and the AoC requirements and, supposedly, my processor is the equivilant of a 2.8gHz pentium 4, because of some bigger cache or something; it's an athlon XP 2800+.

So basically, cutting to the chase, when push comes to shove, when alls said and done, I've installed and updated AoC.

But... I'm having a rather annoying problem in that it doesn't seem to let me want to actually log into the game?! I've changed my ingame password several times to things which cannot be mispelt but it still stays i've entered it wrong. Has anyone else had or heard of this problem?

is your password containing numbers or capital letters m'dear? if so ditch em, AoC no likey numbers in passwords

Well i've got it on lowest settings and it really doesn't look very nice. But i've been playing mostly at night, so single player, and that runs fine. haven't tested it with lots of people around yet.

whats i've really noticed is that with lotro i can play it on almost max settings (so it looks ultra sweet!) and it still runs well with people around.. as long as there are 20+ anyway.

it's like the conan client is just not as effecient. but what i plan to do is to give it a proper test when i start getting to some more populated areas. cos i reckon i might be able to put more load on the graphics card without a reduction in performance. its just hard to judge atm.

Just a follow-up.

While i wish I could play on a Euro server, I have been spending way too much time on the US Wiccana server, the "unofficial" RP PVE server.

I'm running the game with high graphics at an acceptable frame rate and playing an hour or so a day, RL permitting.

The game is huge fun, the leveling and questing more entertaining than I found them on WoW, and I've found enough very fine RPers to keep me entertained when I'm not leveling.

It's still pretty buggy and a little unstable but that makes me sorta nostalgic for early UO days.

I hope the Euro RPers are having as much fun as I am.
