| I see thee Unregistered! | Hunting people down...may/will get annoying, if cant find them through all the instance servers (depending on how many actually exist), but...they should install some sort of anti-griefing thing to stop people shifting zones whenever they want, maybe 20 mins stuck into an instance server as soon as they attack someone in that zone. *shrugs* Could say "is in beta, they maybe change this!" but..considering the release date...nah, they probably wont change it..or at least by the time its open to everyone whose ordered it. Still looking forward to it overall...for the change of scenary too...altho, aint as if playing massive amounts of games lately through work...gta was/is about it these days. |

| Member | I was actually planning to say that aerib, I got it also preordered so i will give it a try. Maybe it's because of vague hope that funcom has actually learned something about MMO's with all this years they been running AO that I hope that they remove silly things like "/instancehopESCAPADE" and make them more like TR wise "certain points in the world where you can switch the instance" (as I don't see any real reason why force people in diffirent instances, as it's proven people do know how to hop to another instacne when other one starts feelign bit to crowded) Personally the beta and 3 months that I played TR with my friends and our guild there we hardly ran in to whole not meeting eachothers problem as saying "I am in palisades 3, get here" was not really that big issue for overall gameplay. And yes we still ran in to plenty of people there even if TR has no OVER 9000000 PLAYERS! as for pvp... no complaints there actually, TR had guild pvp system only so you could attack only those you were in WAR with so even LESS pvp than in normal MMO, but we still found it pretty easily just either switched to most highly populated zone and there most highly populated instance of it, went to hang around in town and most of time there was something worth of killing in there. it's just something you have to get used to, and whatever you say TR was no diablo 2 I agree lot of socializing is good for MMO's and that is what it is all about BUT sometimes you will LIKE instances... when you join in the lauch and everyone is leveling with same speed as you.. trust me you will LIKE instances it dosen't just mean you get your Mobs 2 hours faster than you would when there was +20 in same area it also means there is less lag and more playability (and please don't pretend WoW has no lag, remember before I quit I had played it since US beta WoW release was Lagfest beyond comparison, servers were runned by antique systems and getting in took hours sometimes and quests... god don't even get me started on those, and it took Blizzard long time to fix those ) So try my advice here, try it before you whine about it ( I know I whined lot about TR's instanced areas until my friends actually got me to try beta ) |

| Bailiff of the Crown | Well, i didnt preorder if you meant for me Aeribian, and im hardly a fanboy either of this particular game.. I think the only game i´ve been fanboish about so far has been Oblivion :P (which ofc crashed and burned ^^) As i said, i do understand why they opted to put in instances, but i think its a horribly flawed way of creating an mmo.. TR is a great game in all respects, i played closed->open beta for 4 months, apart from the instanceselection.. But hell, as much as i hate that concept with the teleporters, the randomness in AoC is even worse.. The single main thing i have issues with AoC on is this.. I dont care that the game is virtually unplayable as it stands now due to an extremely laggy client.. I dont care that i glitch outta the world on occation and have to kill myself to respawn on solid ground again, i really couldnt give a rats ass about getting pk´d to oblivion since i lag to much compared with others.. All that can and will be fixed as patching goes on.. However, the instancing wont, unless Funcom magically pulls out a way to expand the playingfield and take away the need for instanced general areas.. Gonna love instances just because its crowded and i have to wait on mobspawns ?? Dynamic spawning? More zones to spread out the playerbase? Lower pop on servers?? Those "simple" things takes care of the problem.. Im not a gamedesigner, but i do know that the easy part of making a game is to put in more content.. The hard part is to code the general gameplay.. Well, lets see where it end up in the endgame. Apparently they say that the Borderlands wont have instances, so it shouldnt be a problem then (and yeh, endgame is all that matters here, i really dont have a problem with the starterzone being instanced since that shit lasts for a few hours anyways).. But why in the nine hells do they think they can accomodate a few hundreds (thousands?) of players at the same time in a bordelands zone in the endgame, if they cant do the same in a lvl 20-40 area ?? The same problems must be there on a coding/server side of things.. How did Blizzard succeed in having about 1k people online and kicking in the same area at the launch of TBC and it actually worked pretty decent? Ofc HFP 3 hours after release wasnt smooth as soloing WC, but it fucking worked, atleast for me on my shitty rig.. I refuse to take the fact that i cutting edge mmo, supposedly of the "next generation" has to revert back a few gens to actually work.. All boils down to one sentence a smart dude wrote on the betaforums.. "I´d rather play on a lowpop server and have the chanse to meet 100% of the population at any given time, than have the potential of meeting 10 times more people that i have no sense of community with" Anyhoo the discussion on the betaboards are ongoing, and i made a nice and lengthy post in the beta journal about it.. So hopefully i can give you more info later on as we get answers.. Oh, plen, i am trying it And really, really dont like to get ganked, find the fucker again to smite him with my awesomness, just to see him magically dissapear on my screen since he flips instances and get a /tell "Hehe, nub"..Last edited by Horatious; 08-05-08 at 02:45 PM. |

| Hey you dared me | Quote:
ever since game designers have been getting huge amounts of feedback from people on how their games should be, games have gone down hill, especially MMOs! MMO designers need to stop liasing with the mass population and they need to get an idea, do their market research, get consultants or whatever and then stick to it. I'm sure that's how the early MMOs came about and some of those were fantastic! look at UO! the concept was absolute genius! if they had stuck to their guns and just updated coding and hardware as they went they would still be onto a big winner. as it is the population of UO has completely changed imo. it's now full of item hungry pvmers with no sense of danger.. which is also the noisy people on forums. the people who whinge about greifers and losing items and demand a means to keep their property safe. | |

| Bailiff of the Crown | I can only concur, the game is very playable for me now aswell and looks very good for the future.. This still isnt the "final" version, but a few builds down the track from what the QA-team works with.. |
