I'm tempted - but I can't imagine the grind to get to level 80 and I know for a fact I'm never going to "complete" a character in an MMO ever again. [not enough time, too many rl interests, four beautiful children]

Plus I really am enjoying my pvp in LOTRO playing an ork in some epic keep battles with a really friendly bunch of peeps. We get mass battles with between 80 and 120 people all fighting at once. [ok so we go down to maybe 5fps but its still fun] [Interestingly you start as a monster at level 50 and theres no grind other than to earn xp to spend on upgrades to your monster - so its a bit more like UO in a way and not so level based]

The intriguing part for me would be to work or be in a guild with so many nice peoples. Never made it into SSL as I started on that server too late to ever catch up. But starting from scratch does appeal. But as with all level based games once you lag behind you can never catch up =)

think one advantage is, if we do get a big guild going, with its own city, any levelled char should by rights, feel alright within its walls, probably outside the walls too, to the extent of what content is available to that leveled character too. Could by rights, be to the almost same extent as what uo used to be...you could walk around the towns, go between them, go wherever really, but didnt really expect to survive long if you were below gm skill and heading to a champ hunt.

Arhh, just stumbled across this thread and thought I'd partake in the festivities!

I and a few others from UO are also going to Age of Conan and it would be great if all the "old" UO'ers stuck together. I personally love the idea of a city state guild. There would be something for everyone in that idea...if someone gets off on cyb0ring, they can make whore chars. Someone is a pvp freak, they make mercenary or soldier chars. And the list goes on...

I think a system like we had in UO with several guilds all working together won't work as well (if it can be said it worked well in UO...) in AoC. I reckon it's best that everyone just joins one guild and work to make it what you want it to be. Righto, rant done. See you in AoC!

Also holding smaller scale forts, mines and such within border kindoms give additional boosts to your guild resources and other things (or at least gave last time I read about it) so they are actually worth of conquering and keeping.

One thing I'm really really hoping for, is if a guild or guilds get made up, interaction happens heavily on all levels..with all people, instead of set people getting limelight that happened in occasions from past uo experience, or only set groups of people get asked to go do this and the other, in respects to the pvp or pve areas of the game.

Set ic groups'll be good, for the more pvp and pve minded people, same with those who wish to be doing the civi stuff to make the city, just that, a city. but the opportunity and offers for everyone to mix into bits and pieces whenever they want or wish to, I hope happens too.

From what I've heard interest wise, theres a fair few old uoers coming over, fair few old wow players coming over, alongside a fair few who're coming from knowing gamers irl. This'll mean..if its one guild, two guilds, whatever, there'll be a big mass mix of player skill, language skill, latant skill and in jeremias' position, no skill. So...in a nutshell, theres a big mass chance of the best and worst to come out from everyone. Hopefully mostly the best and if a guild comes up and running...we'll become the most hated and envied and kick everyones arse at every aspect we wish too.



(except for the cheap an nasty tavern girls, thats a given).

Basicaly me and Hora were just bouncing idea's around lastnight. As usual (as i do with most people/situations) Hora came up with idea's and i just slammed my thoughts about any problems that might occur into the mix.

Basically in my own mind aslong as a guild is made with enough freedom for people to be able to RP how they wish it should (in theory) suit all who wish to be in it. It's why i kept harping on about allowing 'factions' (for want of a better word) within the guild to allow differing roleplay styles.

for the old UO crew a wee example might explain abit better what i mean (apologies to all those Vesperians out there before i start):

Trinsic *spits*,whole town was controlled by DoT (maybe still is *shrugs*). Split the town into segments and give parts of it to DoT,A^K,JS (ah the memories) and Rangarigs old guild (sorry bud i forget the abbr).Then give slam the four guilds under one name (guild) but all still run independantly. Add any guilds ye prefer but that could've (and should've) been one hell of a set up for constant rolling RP oppurtunities.

The city state idea kicks ass Hora,like it alot.

Some little info about our guild thingy also.

Our idea is something of similar, as some of us have some or near zero RP experience
we are plannign to basically set up "Free town" style RP when we get enough players and resources to get ourself a city ground. Nothing that amazing planned yet just basically that every member of the guild is citizen of the town and we roll with it and let people Rp their own way mainly. ( We change this along the way either to better or worse whatever)
an how we accept people... well basically "don't be Snub" thats our criteria... extremely low I know but should keep the most useless guy out

I think it's good we get a basic idea down and a few individuals get stuck into the idea of creating a "city state" and I imagine they'll be the same people who'll be the most hardcore AoC players. For RP to work then everyone else just has to be themselves, put their player into the city state and just interact with whatever is around them. RP, at it's best, develops organically from a group of like minded people.

So when we get into AoC we all form the guild, play our characters and see what happens!

I'm actually really looking forward to it now, instancing or not and I'll most certainly be a Cimmerian of some sort hehe! If only we could make characters from the Aesir or Vanir!
