Found this on the page describing the Guardian and I nearly wet myself with excitement!

Who's going to join me being a Guardian? Would be so cool to get a whole bunch of us in heavy armour with pikes, formed up in a tight mass!

I know Shub talked about being somekinda tank, but wasnt completely sure about guardian or conqueror.. Personally i love the selfbuffs, lifeleeches and genera levilness about the Dark Templars (hope we do get some evillooking weapons, armour and shields later on tho).. So thats my choise

But I believe one of the features of mass battles is that people can form up into proper formations, which are moved as a collective by a commander?

I think it would be ultra cool if any other people who are a bit more militarily minded fancy it, we could develop a group of guardians who all specialise in use of pole arms so that in battle we can form a wall of pikes or a halberds. I bet it would be ultra effective!

I reckon most people are not going to plan like this and will make formations of mixed classes and consequently not benefit from a concentrated mass of specialists.

I think they removed the formations as they realised people arent likely to have much fun with their character being moved by another player.

i'm going to say it again, people don't no what they want!

i bet they've got rid of pikes too? or bad them into some strange melee weapon which just doesn't look right. and it'll probably be pointless gathering people together to fit as a wall of pikes too. ahwell

maybe someone can give me more details on how pikes and other pole arms work? can yuo keep your enemy at a distance with them? or are they basically the same as all other weapons but with different stats?

I have to little experience or knowledge to tell you what the deal is.. My biggest pvp experience so far has been a few minigames of CTF.. Pretty cool map i played tho, basically a underground maze of tunnels and rooms..
I do know however that there are pikes and polearms ingame atm, but i suspect they work as a regular weapon in all aspects atm..

That said, i really really hope/wish/dream for an armyunit in the guild.. Would be so fucking awesome to have drills, different formations and so on to prepare for the lategame mass-pvp.. *drools*

Although formations were removed as option, the benefits remain. For example if you make a wedge formation, the benefits that existed on the formation option will be applied for those keeping the formation.

I reached my goal today on the DT and dinged 30 \o/..
So for the reminder of the closed beta, ill try out some of the other classes.. So far i´ve played a Bear shaman (a bit meh), a ranger (imba dps both ranged and melee) and a HoX.. The HoX (Herald of Xotlolololol or something like that) is a mage that transform him/herself to a demon for melee havoc.. And omg, they are really fucking cool so far

Only lvl 7 so far so only stuff i´ve gotten is a firebreath ability (cone dps) and a short transormation (like 15 sec, 2 min cd) that gives me a firedps aura and more meleedps iirc.. Really cool

Nah, not really tbh.. AoC could have been so much more, and there are desingflaws in the game imo.. But, as any mmoplayer knows, that shit gets sorted out over time as an mmo matures..
I just feel that AoC has something nothing else out there has had for a long time, and thats the ability to actually have an impact on the world from an rp point of view...
Only other game that has this opportunity doesnt even have a rp server.. EvE would be the imbaest (new word woot) rp game ever..

I just hope AoC wont crash and burn, and that they really adhere to the rprules and enforce them.. Thats my only two big concerns.. I dont want another Blizz-clone in terms of gm´s that dont give a shit about a clique of their players..
