[IC]Concerning the City's Temple

((Note carefully stapled on the keep door, addressed to the city council))

***** Concerning the City's Temple *****

Now that we have a Temple in our blooming city
I would like to immediately address the issue of
that temples sovereign deity.

As a Priest of Mitra I humbly realise
my opinion in this matter is biased
and so I will not give it here.

I will would however like to make a clear statement from myself
and the entire Priest of Mitra community
currently residing in the City-state of Tronac.

There is no way we will ever accept a shared temple structure of any kind.

Let me clarify my point of view, a temple is a Secular space.
Secular means an area that has been converted
into something more then just empty space
by the beliefs of the people using it.
This is not always religious,
a stage where actors perform, the line at the bank,
a dance-floor, all these are examples of secular spaces.
They are created in the minds of the people using it,
and maintained by upholding the norms of this idea.
Imagine with this in mind trying to create a theater performance
in the same space as people are trying to dance,
or dancing where people are standing in line for the bank.
Or even trying to conduct a proper prayer while someone is worshipping a reptile.
(Hypothetical example)

It cannot be done.

I don't mean to single anyone out,
but i just want to make it clear that the temple should belong to one,
and only one deity.
Whomsoever that deity be.

My views on THAT should be pretty obvious.
Ofcourse this is a matter for the City council to decide
and I will abide by any choice they make
barring anything that contradicts the statements ive just made.

"He walked by the buildsite, carefully stepping over what rubble the builders had left. Planks, bricks, nails and the like littered the ground.. There it was atlast, the temple in New Tronac, maybe not as impressive as the ones in the City, but atleast a start. With what limited resources there had been at hand, and without access to his private study back home, it was a real wonder it had turned out as good as it had. As he stepped over a saw lying on the ground, already catching rust from the harsh Laechis weather, he grinned with selfsatisfaction..

As the sun already had begun to set, he made his way to the keep.. His private quarters was ready for the night, that he knew, and a bed was what he most desired after this long and busy day.. Approaching the keep, the gatekeep was already hanging out his lanterns for the night. With a slight nod to the old man, he took the last steps up the stairs and saw the placard..
As he read it he felt his good mood and the smile on his lips slowly fade away, when he had finished, his blood was boiling with fury..

The fools! Already bickering, as the mortar between the bricks has not yet hardened !

Furiously he pushed the keeps doors open and stormed in"

Tayla heard rumors regarding a mysterious placard being placed at keep's gate. As always, her curiosity bothered her and she finally decided to read it. It was already late in the evening, small cones of light shining out of already finished buildings, trying to fight a losing battle against the overwhelming darkness in the Lacheish Plains. Tayla grabbed a torch and started walking towards the keep. As she closed the last few meters to the mighty keep, she already noticed something unusual at the keep door, indeed a placard it was.

Tayla immediately started reading, her curious interest rapidly decaying to a feeling, which could be best described as furious pity. "What do those priests think who they are?" she murmured. She stopped reading at a certain point, her eyes filled with tears. Gone was it, the welcoming warmth of a new home, the hope of ever feeling welcome. She ran, not knowing where to at first, out of those grounds, away from all those selfish people. In her loneliness, despair slowly changed to something else, a will to fight. And that was, what she was about to do: Fight. She spent the whole night in the newly built library, trying to think of an appropriate reaction to this unexpected offence.

On the next morning, there was an additional placard on the keep door, directly places below the first one, stating:

Quote:
Dear fellow citizens,

take your time to think of how you felt the day after we built our third building. I am sure, most of you can agree with me on this, that you felt as any other day: Tired of the hard work, but fulfilled with pride of seeing our city grow. Another welcome addition to our community, progressing our goal to create a new home for us. I am sure, everyone of you works as hard as he or she could to construct this building, no matter his or her thoughts, beliefs or dreams. We all shared the labour, but now we are not to share the fruits?

What sort of community shall we grow into, if on one side, we welcome everyone, independent of one's place of birth or the one's gods, but on the other side restrict one's thoughts or refuse the place one needs to develop his spirituality as soon as he starts to work with us.

Let this above placard not fool you. The reasons for it are completely human, far away from any spiritual though. As human as greed, arrogance, selfishness, ignorance and fear of the unknown. I know, you would say: "A priest dedicated to Set wrote this letter, of course she wants this temple for her own". But not Tayla the priest wrote this letter, no, it was just Tayla, the citizen of Tronac. A citizen with a vision of a place for everyone, a place of hope and protection, a home.

I do not even want to call this building "temple", I would like to call it "spiritual meeting hall", where everyone can go to and feel welcome, as long as he does not disturb any ongoing meeting. I trust in you to share my vision.

Hopeful Regards

Tayla, Citizen of Tronac
