| Has this been considered? (Weekly shard-wide meeting day)
Hi all, I am slowly poking my head back into the community after some years of mostly absence. Given that Britain is quite deserted, and (as I gather) RP is a bit fragmented around the various establishments, have it been considered to for instance make Sunday Britain day? Where all RP interested players try to centre their activities around and in Britain to create a base for casual RP? The in-game excuse could be something mundane as market day. Or perhaps that given the resent attacks on Britain all citizens of the land must pay a weekly tax in person in Britain to restore the city (which could also foster some interesting aggressions RP wise). I'm just priming the pump here, feel free to come up with more ideas. What I think would be nice was to have a simple excuse for doing business in Britain e.g. on Sunday's to support casual RP. What do you say? Has this kind of thing been suggested before? if so how did it work? - Svovl Last edited by Svovl; 26-07-09 at 11:43 AM. Reason: Grammar mistake in title

I've always been up for any kind of centralisation, even if it's only temperory. But I do think that it would need to involve the opportunity for violence if it were to be realistic. A lot of people feel uneasy about attending friendly events like markets with people who their character would realistically be chomping at the bit to kill. Some people interpret this as unwillingness to cooperate at an OOC level, but it really just reflects a committment to a certain type of roleplay ethos. Time and time again i've pressed for a scenario where we'd all be forced to stay in a single town for a week or so, with no defined bases or strict rules on our interaction together. That way, RP can flow naturally without us having to arrange all these specific times to meet between our isolated bases.

Something like being forced to show up to pay taxes, (or receive gold for protecting the world from evil, or anything) would force friends and foes to meet up without having to do friendly interaction. If it was to collect gold, some sort of pay-day, it might even open up for some good bar-brawls.

Personally i'd be up for that idea, but don't think that the anti-loyalist guilds would be too keen on coming to pay taxes ![]() I think the best way of doing it is to make out that each faction is absolutely forced to stay in an area for a set amount of time, so that they couldn't just avoid interaction even if that is realistically what they would want to do. A year or so ago I organised an event where both Grd and -V- were shipwrecked in an isolated area of the Lost Lands for a weekend. Other than the general idea nothing was scripted - we just put both guilds together on an island and let it naturally unfold. Unfortunately -V- weren't very active at the time and only 5 or so of them could come over, making things a bit unbalanced. Nonetheless everyone had fun and it provoked varied interaction; both violent and non violent. If we tried something similar now that the RP scene is more active on all fronts than it was it would go down even better, I reckon.

I like the idea of one-off events as well, however it would be nice to be able to know that for instance on Sunday's one can expect to log on and participate in some casual RPing with members form all sorts of RP guilds. Another idea could be that some sort of shipment of some desirable resource arrives in Britain harbour each week. This could lead to battles, where one guild steals from the other.

Said it before - will say it again. Public forums are the worst place to talk about this. Guild leaders are there for a reason - they're the ones who can get things done. Don't come here talking to plebs because their opinions are generally not going to equal progress. Sineal is a member of Grd command - send him an ICQ. Get in touch with Irvyn, Escaflowne, Eason, maybe Devante and whoever's leading Kaldor and pitch your idea as simply as possible. Then slap it on the event's calendar and keep doing it week by week. Simple. Need any help brainstorming there are always people like me (151257836) that will help you come up with ideas but the best advice I can give you is this: less talk, more do. |

| sayin' watcha all thinkin Dread | Please don't take me wrong, I'm not telling you to shut up and I'm not trying to discourage you from posting (this forum's too dead as it is.) I like your idea, it's a good one, I posted my ICQ because I'd genuinely help you put it in motion. But, honestly, don't take me wrong and be feel shot down - I was being serious: hunt out those people's ICQs and really do go talk to them about this. I don't know Irvyn or Eason well enough to give you theirs but I'll happily start you off with Sinny and Esca' .Sinny: 132135147 Esca: 136016357 (he's on, just invisible! Make sure you do it while he's fighting Yew for double lolz =P) |

Do something that takes little work, disease starts up, people not infected get put into one town/place that is easy to watch over during whatever the active times are, say (for example) Cove, or Trinny. Guards, from different guilds on the gates, with a decent amount of boxes to run through for the infected to get in, means with different guilded guards, no chance of greens getting through. After a while a medication gets brewed up to see if first covers chances of infection (with some failures, forces volunteers), then eventual cure of infection for those infected. Grab some people with alt characters to play infected, do random runs into the area, for supplies, randomness, infected minds, play it out for timespan. Forced area to rp in: Check. Chances of pvp: Check. Timespan: Check.
