As Cal said, the WoW and General Forums were my side of things on f4g more recently rather than the UO stuff. Think of me as an f4g Admin rather than an ex-UO Admin nowadays...

not that this poll could be called representative yet. I dearly hope that our community is stronger than 33 people.

It isn't the whole comunity cause the whole comunity isn't being asked only the yes or meh ones.

not just guilds!

Well said, VanQa. And its not just guilds that have lost their history! Losing character histories is also a heavy blow, even if like mine they are backed up. Not to mention the archives of Ye Poste.

I hope all of CoRE can stick together on one host - guilds, ic stories (including the Ye Poste archive) and CoRE ooc forums. To argue that you just need to bookmark all the forums wherever they are hosted is not the same. Apart from anything else, its very convenient to be able to see at a glance the latest post in most of the CoRE guilds. I tend not to regularly check the forums of guilds that shun the CoRE host, despite having them bookmarked.

UOforums are a plus as they are a concentration of UO roleplayers round the world. But F4g is also ok, as long as all or most of CoRE are in one place.

Disclaimer: This is not an attack at you, VanQa, but rather an answer to everyone who has said similiar things here on the forum and to me over the past days. Please do not take it personal, just because I am quoting you for sheer convenience!

Losing something like your guild history is certainly not funny, and yes, bad, bad, BAD Jack for not keeping backup copies of the server, but then again, no backup is ever completely infallible and this forum does not warrant for a $$$$/year super-secure backup in an underground bunker facility and I find it rather naive, blue-eyed and careless to leave your unique guild histories in one place only, which, on top of that, is in the hands and care of somebody else.

Not wanting to kick anyone when they're already down, but I also failed to see all the "Jack, do you have backups in case something goes wrong?"-Threads weeks, months and years ago, which would have shown that you were actually concerned about the issue and did not take things for granted. And no, I am not saying I have not lost anything myself, but I can live with what is gone. Also, I am not all that unhappy with all those arguments, etc. wiped along with the constructive rest.

But, I would say, lesson learned and BIG F'ING WAKE-UP CALL. In the future, you'll know that you will keep copies of everything you write, either as Text or Word or PDF documents and will save them yourselves, as well as posting them on the boards. Maybe burn a copy on a CD or buy a portable harddisk to have a second copy, on top of your own. And if you don't have Word or a PDF maker on your computer, then use Writely by Google which can save as both that and other formats.

And now stop blaming Jack, cause he's only half to blame, and ripping each other to shreds, cause that won't fix anything, and start rebuilding and helping each other out. Are you sure you don't have a snippet of info that someone might find interesting or need for their character/guild ... ? Think about it!

I have no problem with individual guilds sticking their forums wherever they want to. The community part of the equation is supposed to happen 'in game' imo, so the location of some group's forums should make no difference to that.

I know how bookmarks work, so if I ever did want to read a forum not on F4G then I could do so effortlessly. I already have UO bookmarks for around a dozen sites I use regularly and a few more wouldn't hurt.

Trying to make everyone choose one option or another when we are so obviously polarised on this issue is not going to work.

I know the blame for losing things is not with Jack, Rangarig. I have absolutely no hard feelings in regards towards that for this person, because the possibility of a wipe is always there. I keep hitting my head against the wall while asking myself why i indeed did not back up important things (especially with the current storyline involving VanQa) and i will from now on definately do that. I just find Vita's comment on things being funny not very considerate.

I'll tell you the real secret to this debate: If you fix it so the links at core.moongates.org lead to this place, in a week I won't remember any of this happened. ;-)

Think you'll find vita's comment refers to the discussion/debate/argueing going on after the big bang....not the big bang itself.

Well said as usual, General. And may I add, it amuses me too. You just about have made up for the loss of all the apathetic and argument threads ...

What I find funny is when it was said repeatedly that if people want to help keep the forums running they can click ads, and we need donations to survive nobody did. When server needed to be upgraded from 1gb memory to 2gb of memory who had to pay the $300? When it needed to be upgraded from 2gb to 3gb who had to pay another $300? All this money spent on place I hardly visit anymore, all this money on a place where people couldn't be arsed to click one advert a day (truth be told the server would of been paid for with an average of 40 clicks a day, that's all!). Could of pruned old posts to keep size of database down, but didn't allowed them to stay so you guys didn't lose stuff. When the server went down and took 5 days to come back up it was because I was working away from home, and reason I have had to work away from home is money is tight and need the overtime. For 2 months now been spending 4 nights away from home not being able to do the things I enjoy yet still I didn't close this place despite that it would shave ?50 off my bills a month.

Yes you lost posts, but I have lost over ?1000 running this place over the past 2 years, if you back to the start 5 years ago that figure is probably closer to ?2000. I asked for your support but 95% of you didn't give it. The info lost was so important yet you couldn't spare 10 seconds of your daily routine to click an ad? Honestly can you see why when I am struggling to pay my own bills I simply couldn't afford to pay extra to have forum backed up?

After 5 years of countless hours of work and money poured into this site letting go of this place was very hard which is why I just couldn't do it. But reading some peoples opinions and blatent lies its now been made really easy
