What is the function of this forum? I only ask because there doesn't seem to be a charter for it and most the posts seem to be utterly irrelevant. Woulnd't it be good if the forum had some specific purpose other than pointless babble and complaints?

general RP/OOC forum. Just like the old CoRE forum, except they merged it with the under-used non-CoRE general RP/OOC forum.

It's a general forum that doesn't need a purpose...it just is and survives by being fed the general prattle of your average poster.

The more its fed the more it breed, over time it will consume those posters and take over thier lives. Not posting often results in going 'cold turkey' for those poor unfortunate obsesive poster to whom post count means all.

Fair enough, but uhm... it's no longer a place I even have bookmarked because I am sick of reading the drivel. If the purpose of this forum was to provide something for the roleplay community to converge on; it's obviously failing. I wonder if anyone else out there feels the same way?

Or you could all come to Europa RP UOforums (yay advertisement). It doesn't help humankind to evolve (that is if you believe in evolution) but there's not much else going on right now except nothingness. So you're at least spared the babble.

But maybe that just is because there is nothing noteworthy going on in UO right now? Just wait till someone whines about yellow bags again and there's your "helpful" RP thread

Uhm, the example you cite is utterly irrelevant to this particular thread. I am not complaining about the contents of any particular guilds forums and their own threads, I am specifically reffering to this forum.

I am not asking for a divine point, not am I asking how it will help manking evolve. What I am - quite candidly asking is what is the point of this forum if all it creates is babble threads and a negative atmosphere. How does that help the community in any sense?

I see this forum just as a place to babble about UO and RP related stuff. Why does it have to be productive or helpful (I guess useful was more the word you were looking for)? There's lots of things we do that aren't productive or helpful.
You could argue that wasting time with UO itself is not any more productive than this forum and creates a negative atmosphere as well (OMG THEY DON'T FOLLOW ROE! OMG WE LOST TEH BATTLE! OMG LAG! OMG PEOPLE DON'T RESPECT MY FICTION!).

It's just a way to waste your time. Sometimes it's productive by accident and sometimes not. Sometimes it's funny and sometimes not. Some things are just not meant to help anyone by default.

Well, yeah, basically, it's an OOC forum for on and off topic stuff (mostly on...off topic *should* go in the lounger or Ozles or one of those, but we're not going to ban someone for posting an octopus video).

Some of the stuff here is relevant, but yes, there is babble *gasp*. If you want only relevant stuff, read the Fireside (IC posts/reports/Poste), Town Crier (events) and GM board. This one's for fun and rants.
