Well, being you, I can see what your trying to do.

The problem is, None of us entirely want PvP but it's more a case we need it to fufill our roleplaying demands. If the UO Engine had a nice little thing where you could *Punches* and you'd punch that'd be awesome. But we need PvP to interact, To settle arguments, Debts and Assassinations!

Just my view though. -.-

And why are you bringing this up Callum?! Everyone knows PvP in RP circulates across the whole of the boards.

Now if you were talking about normal PvP (Not RP)

The UO game has turned to Item V Item rather than skill and so I don't like to do much PvP with Artifacts!. Than again WoW's the same, But not so bad, Every MMO has bad sides to PvP, Mainly being it's players, Who can trust a player. Pfff.

I'm going to take it that you mean RPvP. I haven't tried PvPing in Fel since AoS, and I never did it seriously before that (although I might chase the odd red on my way to a champ hunt, or during). Certainly not now, with items.

In RP, I enjoy battles, provided I don't die in the first few seconds, which is usually what happens. Killing and surviving is quite gratifying. However, more important is the drama that conflict causes, and makes a nice backdrop against which you can develop character and guild stories.

Given my RP characters are all in Kaldor, be it the main guild or the citizen subguild, I'd find life very dull without a war to be involved in.

without the wars the RP community would have very little substance or any real heavy story lines, everything would be very up in the air, made up and would only draw a few hardcore individuals. there would be little to no scope for playing a guard or soldier or any kind, everyone would be a peasant and a peaceful one at that.

I believe the fighting is what builds the backbone for the politics between the various factions and gives the inspiration for many people to join the community.

I myself joined the RP community to fight wars with politics and logistics etc. without that there's little else except the tavern to keep any interest alive.

Apart from the obvious of roleplaying I did join the roleplaying community to have fair PvP with GM weapons and armour.

No PvP = No RP.

90% of what we roleplay has something to do with fighting somewhere. I said 7.

I reckon less than 5% of my total role play time is spent fighting. That said, the rush of RPvP is important for me and my characters so I'd say about an 8.

Apologies for quoting you Su-mi but was a good reference point to start from..

Whilst i'd agree with the second part most does have some reference to fighting of some sort, I'd disagree with the first sentence though...

I'd say the threat of pvp is more important than the actual pvp - it adds the edge to situations.
It's perfectly possibly to Rp without any pvp and still have fun.. and no i don't mean tea parties and such...

Although i've had characters who were more pvp based in style in the past, personally I prefer the intrigue and manipulatiing situations angle that goes on behind the pvp and IC get others to do the pvp part

I pursue an immersive world.

I enjoy PvP upon occasion and I don't enjoy it upon occasion. RP would not be impossible without PvP but it would be more shallow in my oppinion and your actions would be more limited.

Hostile actions without the possibility of PvP seem hollow to myself. You can threaten and then subsequently power-emote untill your blue in the face but it won't make people react half as well as a sword to the gut.

Aye but Moiraine that's daft. There's no threat of PvP if there isn't ACTUALLY PvP. Have you ever tried robbing a blue? Heh. They suddenly become super heroes, it's ludicrous.

oh I agree... but the threat can be enough is what i meant..
The knowledge that pvp is possible is needed... and can produce some interesting interaction without the pvp ever needing to be the end result...
it's developing these such avenues that i find more interesting... thats all

I wonder how many of the 16 who voted between 1 - 5 are GM's. And I wonder what influence these self-confessed non-PvP'ing GM's had on decision making regarding the PvP mechanics of roleplay?

We don't do PvP in Srf. I joined the guild originally because I was shite at fighting and magery, so it was perfect. The only fighting Sally has ever done is the odd catfight, with only wrestling, which I have at 0, and lots of emoted hair-pulling and face scratching.

Seven. Pretty important for me and it's part of the fun. But like Samsca said, sometimes it's more fun and sometimes it's less fun.
