Exclamation The Fireside Table

The Fireside Table is intended for In Character posts only. If you have OOC comments regarding a particular post or story, please make a thread here in the Drake and Dragon instead, or better still, PM the story's writer with your concerns or congratulations.
Regarding Irvyn's "Bad News for Vesper" thread - it is war time propaganda. Instead of having an OOC moan about it, why not have a go at making your own propaganda instead? Devlin used to make some great posters.

I cant agree more.

An In character post about someones point of view or thoughts or feelings isnt up for moaning about.

They are IN CHARACTER posts so respect them as such.

More people need to get writing IC posts on the fireside. It's makes for a good read and helps people know what's going on outside of their characters little world.

Agreed, although people will also need to be able to distinguish stuff known by them as a player, from stuff known by their character. Unfortunately for some, this seems to be overly difficult.

So just stories are okay to go on the Fireside table? Like the Family of the Wolf one for example?

I remember some time ago, ther was a debate about what should/could go on there - IC publications, and widely known information could go on - but personal stories were advised against.

I'll keep going with the Family of the Wolf assuming that it's the type of thing wanted on the Fire Side Table.

My own personal thoughts were that top secret private stuff is best off keeping it private.

Other stuff I'd always have seen as Fireside material, as it provides as Henry said, a good read, and that other things are also going on.

In a personal sense, it can also help to define how your character grows even to yourself - there's somewhat a difference between just having something in your head, and writing down posts worth of out of game RP.

That's just my own view anyways.

Personal stories are absolutely fine, if you want to post them. The only real issues (aside from the obvious ones of overly graphic sex or violence; racial slurs and other things that go against the TOS) is if your story involved other players' characters and perhaps gave away things they would rather not have revealed in such a fashion (eg, let's say you find out Bob is a vampire - something he has managed to hide for several years - and wrote about it, it would be understandable if he got a bit miffed for blowing his secret in an OOC fashion). Things like that don't come up much these days but there have been instances in the past where people took information like this as IC knowledge.

Fireside Table or Ye Poste?

I would like to appeal to everyone who writes Fireside Table stories, or who puts up posters for public knowledge, or any other news intended for all characters to know, to consider if their piece might be suitable for Ye Morning Poste. Propaganda items, wanted posters, announcements by pretenders, rebels, etc. can thereby be brought in-game as well as in-character, for all characters to know.

Perhaps it's worth adding a tag - like "Public - <post title>" to public knowledge posts?

That way, the poste can just delve into them in the paper if they appear on the forum?

If that's an option that people want, I could add prefixes so that you could tag threads as such easily.

Wow

Just post.

If its in character, go for it.

If your post involves someone else, check with them before hand if you think what youre posting might in some way comprimise some IC integrity of the other party.

Otherwise, entertain us.

I used to write a lot of very private short stories involving Lyim and his internal angst and tribulations. Sure, he might have bitched about it with maybe a pair of confidants he had, but I liked the idea of having other PLAYERS understand there was more to Lyim than just good chlothes and a healthy libido. Granted, he/ I had to deal with everyones (mis)conceptions in Game, and I liked that. I used to get a lot of feed back about how the Lytim that people encountered in game was very different than the internal Lyim they read about.

I like that about people's deeper story posts.

A window to the soul.

Ive been toying with the idea of renewing my account or getting a free trial version to foool around with as a silly Lyim and see what trouble I could stir still. I miss you lot now and then, its kinda cute.

Rambly as always. Long story short: dont blow someones cover. Check with them first in order to turn the gray area into black or white. Keep the posts coming, and as Angst said, anything thats decent enough to be used for public knowledge should be sent to the Poste, so everyone can "read it" and apply it in their day to day RP. I think a vast majority of people dont utiulize the Poste. Its a great venue fo moving your agenda or turning the political mindset of the foolish masses a particular direction.

Use the Poste people. Often. They need you!
