This isn't a dig, or criticism in any way shape or form - I'm just wondering...

how often is the poste "published"?

When I was last in game it was daily, skipping every now and then... it's been about 5 days this time. Is that normal now?

I would volunteer to write - but unfortunately one of the conditions set for my return to UO was that I don't get involved in anything that might possibly suggest I'm part of a community again.

Real life sucks.

There is currently only a handful of active writers - myself being one of the more active ones - and basically there is very little input from the "community" in the form of messages etc etc

And as it is an "in character" document I think many of us Poste writers are loathe to put in stuff that people get their knickers in a twist over.

Its called a lose-lose situation - damned if you do , damned if you dont.

I have taken to putting stuff on stratics quite a bit on their News page as its an ooc news thing.

But the Poste is IC so its much more tricky.

If people PMd their rumours and stories in and *I* get them - trust me I will publish and be damned!

More writers would help, but 3 writers would be ample if - as Callum points out - more players had their characters put in small ads, announcements, letters to the editor, etc - dammit, even one-paragraph articles on new armour or weapons (a bit like a UO Jane's), or a review of an in-game book. Or a report on a battle? Doesn't have to be "neutral", in fact a bit of controversy would ginger it up and perhaps stimulate someone to write a response.

I've said this before, but many of the ic posts in places like the Town Crier and the Market Place could be also placed in Ye Poste so it becomes ic knowledge to all characters (though any character can still say they hadn't heard of it (been away, busy etc).

Its a real shame and a bit of a vicious circle - few ic items, fewer issues, even fewer ic items and so on. I've always maintained that Ye Poste is the community's most important forum resource. The burden shouldn't be on a few dedicated writers to regularly fill the newspaper with material. What a burden that would be! Its down to us the ordinary and not-so-ordinary characters to provide the bulk of material, with the occasional staff-written article.

To send something into the poste, is it done over ICQ or a Private Message on F4G to the poste?

Wouldn't mind sending in the odd story and helping out when I can. For example rumours one of my character's hears or particularly suspect propaganda. :]

One paragraph takes maybe 5 mins to write with a screenie? If we had ten of those a day we could make a fabulous Poste.

And send in one a week from 40 players gives enough for plenty of issues.

Hell its a five minute job.

BUT ask a writer to go through IC posts and decide what can be used and then rewriting it and formattign and blah blah it takes an hour at least - sometimes two.

Like Angst I have said it many times - players write up their private note books and stick them on the fireside - why not also write a short "public" thing about what happened also?

Id love to put more of the sort of stuff Kaelyn and Faeryl write in the Poste =)

Just a point, don't most newspapers go out and find sources for the papers, is odd if some sort of rebellion or war is going on and that either side sends things into a newspaper..

In the past the Poste has been slated for 'finding' information and posting it.

The way they're proposing does ensure that what they've posted wont annoy whoever its aimed at.

Blame the whiners and gripers for the Poste no longer being true journalism and the pit of lies it always used to be (which i found more entertaining in truth)
