Scariest games or funniest games...

I remember playing Ultima Underworld ages ago with my stepbrother watching. We had the lights off and the atmosphere was good. I opened a door into another room of the dungeon, when a giant rat jumped out from behind it and squeaked at me! My stepbrother and I both shouted out loud in fright! It was soo funny!

ANnother was Alone in the dark. Crap graphics but sooo much atmosphere! the zombie dogs scared me there.

I have a copy of F.E.A.R gave to me by my mate but I haven't dared play it yet. I'm such a wuss.

FEAR's not that scary.
My other half reckons Clive Barker's Undying was the scariest game - he had headphones on and it freaked him out (it's all in the sound). I came up to ask him if he wanted a cuppa and he jumped a mile.

Scarriest games are the Silent Hill games... no contest.

FEAR is quite a fun game! Can't say I was too scared of it though... erh scariest game? mmhm anything with the lable "EA"... :P

No but seriously, I thought Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth was quite scary, the character could go insane if he saw things like bodies or the strange creatures. It's a very good story but a very difficult game! Some places were just very hard to get by... I almost broke it in half when I had to run through this cave and died right at the end all the time as the rocks fell! Died at least 15 times before I made it through !

Oh funniest game is erh Escape From Monkey Island mmhm

Scary thing about DCOTE is that you don't have weapons for a lot of it so you really don't want to get caught.
Silent Hills are creepy too, yeah.

STOP!

For those who have forgotten, or who have never been blessed with the beauty that is System Shock 2, there is no game scarier, no game with graphics anyway. No Silent Hill game, nor FEAR (which is only good for the first 2 parts, and is just silly by the end).

System Shock intro -

a few minutes of gameplay, on the first level -

litte bit more gameplay -

and if anyone cant be bothered playing it, this is a SpeedCompletion video of someone finishing the whole game in 36 minutes. It took me probably ten times that long no easy difficulty.

Yes, I am a self-confessed fanboi! It's probably one of my favourite games of all time. I play it with the lights turned on.

Max paynes psycho levels when following lines of blood with a kiddie crying was kinda wierd..same with that escape from prison game on ps2....things jumping from ceilings and strangling you, the gasman....psychoward with kiddies crying again >.<

Best thing seen/known was when mates were playing doom3 with the lights turned off, surroundsound on, I wander in their house, sneaked upto 'em and shouted "OI!!!!" in their ears, nearly hit the roof ^^.

Funny games...monkey island, sam and max, day of the tentacle, pure class and thinking (sorta) in one

Also, it's not scary but it's plain creepy: Manhunt

Mine would be Space Hulk [I think thats the name] - it was a combination of real time and frozen time strategy where your team of space-marines are tryign to investigate a spaceship inhabited by aliens.

The scary bit was you would spend ages planning your strategy gdetting good LOS on all areas then youd come to a bit of open territory - which means death if you cant get into good position.

So youd start to sweat and plan and then execute ...

Then youd hear the attack call of the aliens and the dying screams of space marines as it all went pear-shaped.

Man I loved that game.

Also Quake has to get a mention as youd think you had cleared an area and then some Chainsaw wielding ogre would leap out and chop off your head.

Class

Space Hulk was cool.

I remember the first time I played Doom on a network. We'd got it in for review at PC Review mag, but this was in ye olde early 90s and we didn't have a LAN and I had to be content playing my dep ed over a serial link.
Fortunately we were on good terms with the guys over at PC Zone so they invited us over to deathmatch on their office network.
We played through all the levels until we got to the end of level baddy, the cyberdaemon. I just remember 4-5 of us cowering in the central room while the cyberdaemon stomped around the outside, firing rockets. The sound of him stomping around out there was bloody terrifying!

One game I'm really looking forward to is Alan Wake, a psychological thriller that looks as though it'll be pretty intense. And just look at the screen shots - absolutely beautiful.
