Stealing

Now im all for thieves and all for stealing from players, but over the last few days ive noticed a slightly odd trend. Thieves walking past you emoting *brushes past* and stealing randomly from your pack!

Bare in mind i carry a yellow bag on Raul, stuffed with jewels and gold. But what is the point? I mean if a theif is gonna just use his stealing skill and then just click on me, its totally random and pointless carrying a bag at all. Bare in mind also this is being done at Britain bank and someone could easily loose a valuable item this way!

No Samson, this is not a pop at anyone in particular. This is a pretty widespread issue, its happened several times now. It is alot easier to highlight a issue like this here, where people will see it

Just want to add, can more folks please make sure they are carrying yellow baggies? With decent stuff in? (Gold, gems, interesting books, IC messages - anything worth having!)

I don't, and won't, carry a yellow bag. I don't expect to be dry-looted but I'm perfectly happy for people to take any of the gold, bandages, gems, potions or whatever that I'm carrying. When I have to start replacing my armour after every ganking I might change my ways.

Respect.

But I am really confused - please forgive me this is a genuine statement.

Arent thieves supposed to steal stuff then?

If i were a pickpocket Id be nicking stuff all the time or snooping etc - otherwise ... whats the point in being a thief?

Honest guv

If they are breaking the yellow bag rule etc etc then have a word with the GM - if its a mass thing then we need GMs to start investigating =)

Just an FYI to all in vesper on the beach is a RP vendor house.
There is one vendor who sells yellow bags for just this some empty dome with a few everyday items in them kindleing lanterns a bed roll etc.

I agree with raul it is a break in the rules and should any of the thieves guilds be known then they GM's be told. Though it is also good to be posted on the public boards (since there is no nameing or finger pointing) if nothing else but a reminder to all the rogues and thieves out there that there is a rule in place and should any steal from my main pack especially something of major value I will kill them for it. The yellow bag rule is there for just this situation. What if what they randomly stole at an atrie of some such or something of great money value? This is wrong and should be posted as a reminder.

I was under the impression that banks and inns were safe/offlimits.
I can't think of any reason to steal randomly from anyones pack at BRIT bank of all places to be anything other than done for ill reasons. imho

I would think inns were fair game, due to the people being drunk and less likely to notice the hands in their pockets.

Especially if its some er trollop (that rpey enough, didnt wish to use the worse names for a lady of the night )?

Could it be that the person/persons randomly stealing dont have snooping - in which case they cant steal from a yellow bag anyway but can only steal a random item from your bag?
Not an ideal situation but might explain why it is happening.

As for the fear of losing something valuable - make sure all such items are insured that way they cannot be stolen. Thats generally what I do with my kit - even down to items which dont have an intrinsic value but which are a pain to replace.

I have to confess I often forget to carry a yellow bag around with me but then I see what is left in my backpack - gold and regs usually - as fair game for a thief.

Well for those thieves that are doing random stealing here is a reminder of the RoE guidelines to stealing. Like Jade I would be thoroughly annoyed if somone random stole from me and took something they shouldn't.

CoRE Rules of Engagement

Stealing Skill

* Any character with the stealing skill must be pointed out by their player to their respective Guildmaster.

* The use of the stealing skill is only allowable in combination with at least 70 in the skill of snooping.

* Allowable items for stealing include food, drinks, gems and up to 500 gold coins per victim.

* Each member of CoRE must carry a bag dyed bright yellow. Items contained in this bag are considered stealable for thieves. There is no restriction as to what items may be placed in the bag.

* If no bright yellow bag is carried by the victim, the thief may steal a single GM made weapon from the victim. The weapon can be restituated to the victim in exchange for the sum of 500 gold coins.

* Quest-related items should be placed in the bright yellow bag to allow role-playing thieves to involve themselves in quests and acquire such items.

If that were the case they would still be breaking the rules as you must have 70 snooping to steal acording to the RoE.

Iv'e heard talk about thieves stealing when they walk past, now if your an experienced thief, you know the trade well. So when prepared your able to steal an item out of the yellow bag as you strole past someone.
And iv'e noticed 95% of the time if a thief is behind someone and emotes something like *Slyly takes an item from your backpack* You would not notice, yet people always chase the thief due to reading the rp'ed emote.
Honestly i think that a master thief shouldn't even emote what he does due to this. Besides you wouldn't know if someone stole from you unless you saw the item disapear...

Noticing the stealthy emote is called "super rper" or "i can't lose" syndrome

but banks are offlimits really along with other npc buildings or something like that
