Garret was one of the best ever RPers to grace the community, but he was so because he played his character as near to perfect as possible. But I wouldn't consider him a legend in an IC sense. He was not a political figure and didn't have any influence beyond his close friends. I don't want to take anything away from him for that though! And I don't think he himself would think himself suitable for a list of legends.

I don't know who Damien Lumberton is..?

All the others I think I agree with, they all have lasted the ages and in their times (some still current) have had genuine political power.

It was many of those characters who influenced me when I played as I always enjoyed the political side of the game more than the day to day pub sitting.

I think there are many characters who have had political influences and IC positions of power for a time, but have been not had the impact to be remembered as well as legends. And I certainly think that should be considered when constructing this list.

But I think you've got it pretty much right there

I just thought I'd add a bit of a reminis about the old Order of the Codex which me and Peleus tried to bring about some years back. Working with GMs from all the knight guilds of the time we tried to bring them altogether. Much of that project was based around the idea of legendary knights and even though the project fell through we did manage to form the chivalric council, which ran for a while with a few of those legends sat at it. Those were great times.

Damien Lumberton was the founder of Grd, and hey Kaelith come on ICQ more so i can speak to you!. If the its going to get narrowed down into a small list my view on legends should be they should be a legend because of: Being a great roleplayer, doing alot of deeds/events/affairs IC, and doing alot of good deeds for the community OOC

I think Marshall Drakan should be up there, he's already an IC legend - definately amongst Grd. Maybe even in place of Klion (no offence Klion!)

Garret co-founded The Swaggers Inn, no?

And as for replacing Klion, I've had more people wanting him in that then others in the list, so.. yeah :]

Thinking hard, both Pad O'Lion (Duke of Spiritwood), Videric Gaveston (Something of Cove?), Twothumb and Seriya DeLacey (who for a year ran the Poste almost by herself?) deserves their place on that list. I managed to find a screenshot of Brown Moses on the old Darkcloaks website:

On a side note, I'm hoping this thread will also encourage people to write (or improve) articles on them at the MoongatesWiki.

Aye, myself and Jack are encouraging VTC and -B- to poste their character profiles, and update the guild profiles. And thanks for the screenshot bud.

hey matey

been a while!

wow! i never knew who the founder of Grd was till now. I guess he's a must for the list!

Maybe one of the problems with this list is that it's not specific enough. I think you've either got to make it purely IC or OOC.

If you're going to make it purely IC then the legends will be all those legendary dukes, barons, lords and ladies who's names have survived the ages. Maybe with few individuals who have effectively reached these people's level of IC reknown, much like Chucky the pirate maybe?

If it's gonig to be OOC then it's all those people, like Seriya, who have put their all into the community for so long and are greatly respected for it.

Trying to find a mid point will be much more difficult more down to personal preference/interpretation; which is already a factor when you try to consider one side!

It maybe more simple to just make it a museum of people you think are legendary Van?

I agree with that. I'm not too keen on these attempts to make lists of the most important events/characters in the whole Europa RP scene that hint at having some 'official' status. Inevitably you're only going to get a tiny proportion of rpers who happen to be in the loop contributing their own personal views, which is hardly representative of the community as a whole. It's like the 'History of RP on Europa' thread. Whilst it's an admirable piece of work, it's very much focused on telling the history of a select part of the community rather than Europa RP in general, and it's a good thing it admits to not being an objective account at the beginning.

Aww, just stumbled upon this (don't visit these forums very often these days!) and flattered to be added.

Couple of suggestions:

Lord Helrick - he was the EGM character before Jordan Jurrell, and sacrificed himself in that big Oblivion battle in Britain (which I didn't go to, but read the write ups).

Dravon Vlagshaw - he was the founder of A^K and Kaldor's first General. He was before my time and was a bit of a contraversial character, from what I can glean, but both in OOC (for founding A^K) and IC (for trying to conquer Britannia) terms he's definitely notable. Perhaps you should make a villains section where you can put him next to Klion.

Lenar (Lenar Isawa was his IC name though the character was just Lenar) was pretty notable for being a nutjob (god knows he started enough wars) - he was commander of Kaldor before Cal. Whether he's a legend or not depends on who you speak to. I think he definitely left his mark, though. And of course Pala should be there.

Skarlek was a notable villain - part of Blackthorn's Minions, I think it was, for those old enough to remember them (this was back in the days of yore, I mean ERPA).
Venom D'Orsay was another who is probably noteworthy.

However we really need to include some Judges as there are none mentioned, and the guild as a whole was legendary!

Did anyone mention Ms Buttons? She could certainly produce legendary floods of tears...

These were the founding and main guilds of CoY, something that was around long before CoRE and all the guilds interacted with each other with a hell of a lot of roleplaying. Not just picking and choosing who they liked. Just because some of them aren't around today they did inspire many roleplayers who are still around, like the members of KTD who joined the likes of DoT, Grd and BoC. Or Octivian himself who was a member of T*M, so without Calin and Ketrid (BoC) probably wouldn't been around.

When I think of Legends I think of historical figures, isn't Elvis a Legend? Is he still alive today? No. These guild leaders are the roots of something that grew and expanded, just because some people don't play anymore should they just be disregarded aside from the many years of hard work they did put in?

Why don't you make it a growing project, so rather than build a museum and put in x number of people, start it with a small amount - say 3-5 exceptionally notable people - and then over time, and with further community feedback, add more people to the legends list.

It could even become a periodic community discussion/vote on who to add, and each time one is added it may end up provoking some pleasant nostalgia and discussion with the community.

Criteria to be in the the list has to be thrashed out, it's really the thing you need to start on before you can add the people to it. If you are having trouble finding the criteria, look at the dead-certs you've got and consider why they're there.

That makes a lot of sense to me =)

I think picking a few to start and then voting on the rest is a very good idea.

I can work with that, only problem is that it makes the place look empty and like it's missing something. So I'll decide on a five to start with, and each month a new character can be chosen by either myself or the people to be inducted into this "Hall of Fame", which is nearly ready for the public may I add.
