Holy Jesus! The Biggest Bee I Have Ever Seen (TM) just got into the office and got trapped behind the net curtain. Damn, that thing was big. Managed to capture it using a plastic container and a magazine but holy crap, it was over an inch long.
Must have been a queen bumblebee.

That is curious: at the weekend we trapped a hornet in the kitchen, a rare and enormous beast. (maybe an inch and a half long)
I trapped it in a glass with a picece of card, then one of my sons took it outside. In his words "I let it go then ran like buggery".

I remember getting a hornet inside when I was in my teens (this was in Camberwell, SE London). I killed it with fly spray as I was too scared of it to do the cup and paper trick. I mean, that boy was BIG.
I think we're seeing these big insects about because it's been an unusually mild autumn and they've not died off to the cold yet. Bees are usually pretty drowsy at this time of year, but that queen bumble had a lot of life in her!

There was a bigass wasp in the kitchen last night, and while drunk I actually slew it midair with a big plastic battleaxe.

That's how power-metallers kill insects.

I approve of this phrase. This is a good phrase. I shall be using this phrase.
I shall, perhaps, teach it to Sunday School children.

I trust you will also teach them how to catch hornets.
These things are useful skills.

That one hadn't actually occurred to me...but um...yes...I may slip it into the "plagues of Egypt" discussions.

Hornets are rather inferior to wasps being of a more slower capacity. Whether this is due to diminished interlect or a more gentle nature is however unknown to me.

However catching or destroying is a far easier and less hazardrous task than dealing with wasps.. in my limited experience of the field.

I don't like wasps. They're all high this time of year. High and cranky. They stumble around the place like they're trying to figure out whether or not they 'have the munchies' and 'whose sofa they should crash on' - but not in a gigly-high way...in a mean MEAN way. And then they start with you. Fpr NO reason. Not like the Bees. The Bees always have a reason. I say we keep the bees and kill the wasps. The Bees make honey, remember, and that HAS to be a good thing. Unlike the wasps. Stoned layabout bastarding wasps. And as for the hornets. Well, only one thing you can do there...and that's to let them go and run like buggery. Or so I'm told.

You won't be able to get out of the microwave once you've gotten it to chase you inside..even worse it might shut the door on you.
