| Count yourself lucky. I have to go down to Poole (my parents retired there - I grew up in London so I have no old friends there) and as both my parents have had strokes, and my mum is only out of hospital on Christmas Day and still can't talk, I'm going to have a great fun time. Plus I have to cook the dinner, which is just wonderful.

| Well, after last Christmas, which I spent alone in my flat, I wanted to do something nice with Fred. I get so bored when I go to my parents due to the lack of Sky, computers of any sort, broadband, music... Pretty much the only good things about going home were being able to talk with my mum, which I can't do properly now as she can't talk back, and her cooking, which obviously she can't do. So it's one great big suck. I know it sounds ungrateful or bad or whatever but really, I just don't want to go.

| Its only 2 days if you count boxing day. Cal cant you be compassionate for 2 days? Theres a lot more to life than Sky, Computers, Broadband and Music. Surely you could plan a nice New Year away someplace special for both you and fred.

| I'm going to sound like a complete scrooge here, but I did always despise the way people are expected to be happy at Christmas. In my experience, the happiest moments of my life have been through the course of spontaenity - where nothing's expected and nothing's been drilled in a million times over. The amount of advertising of useless tat, especially that aimed at parents to make their kids 'happy,' is pretty sickening. Seen the one for Argos? Grr. If Christmas is supposed to be a time when people are together, spending time with those they love, surely the obligatory crap-buying shouldn't come into the equation? I mean, come off it. People buy things for everybody else. The only people who really gain anything are those telling you to buy their tat. I think it'd be far better for kids to realise from an early age that happiness doesn't come priced at £99.99, wrapped in a box under the Christmas tree. If I was to go on with this sermon, I'd say never do something 'good' if you expect a reward at the end of it. Spending more than humanly affordable doing 'Christmas shopping,' for instance, is a load of bollocks. It's far more valuable spending time with each other, forgetting old grudges and accepting that each and every one of us is, underneath it all, pretty much the same as yourself. We're all human. IMO, anyhoo. I also havent slept in 2 days. | ||||||||

| I am being Fairly compassionate, Decardo, because I'm going, aren't I? Doesn't mean I have to like it. And tbh I have a bad case of PMT and if I want vent I'm going to absolutely vent.

Everyone buys themselves a handful, or just one if budget constraints kick in, of presents they want, then they label them from Father Christmas and be done with it. | For me christmas is about having my littel family all in the same place again and making sure they have a fun day  Making it magical for my little boy and seeing his face as he opens his presents is the fun part. I dont care about presents for myself - the best present is my partner being home with me, there really isnt anything else I would rather have
