Technically, it doesn't rust because the metal is protected by a cohesive impermeable and normally non-reactive layer of chromium oxide.
If that protection is compromised then the steel will rust. Fortunately there aren't many things that will do that.

My lecture today was annoying, in the tutorial we were being shown how to do buttons on a flash movie that you can click to move the images forward or backwards in sequance. Unfortunatly I was one of those on a computer with my back to the lecturer and he goes through things so fast that if you miss a bit your lost. So for near enough the entire lecture I was staring at my screen thinking WTF?? Even one of the other lecturers that come round and help out was about as useful as well a not very useful thing.

In actual fact, the universe would only come to a stop and then go back on itself if we lived in an open universe, like the outside of a beachball. According to what nutty-people-with-labcoats observe and extrapolate, the mass density of the universe isn't big enough, so it seems we actually live in a closed universe, meaning that we should be expanding indefinately.

However, according to observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background, we are living in neither a closed or open universe - we're in a 'flat' universe. Of course, this means that we are exactly on the critical mass density, and since we have no idea where all this additional mass came from, we say 'Bugger it, let's just make some mass up to fit the equations and call the missing stuff 'Dark Energy.'' Living in a flat universe also implies a continuous expansion, though approaching a limit point.

Finally, according to observations made on faraway supernovae, it seems that the universe isn't actually slowing down, it's accelerating outwards. Nobody has a clue how that happens, but they made me write a sodding essay about all this crap last year. I wondered when it'd come in handy and, well, here we are!
