One thing that, tbh, nearly everyones missing about F4G forums, is that it wasnt, and hopefully never will be, purely for UO, nor for CoRE. Its never been that way, those who think its been here purely for CoRE, are blind and never ever saw or took notice of the other threads and forums upon these pages.

Theres no reason why these forums should fall ass on tit if CoRE shifts. The way some posters on here go on, its a major vendetta against CoRE, which...although worries me slightly, doesnt make any sense why they'd want to go and spoil a forum, purely because some organisation, sorted on the internet, posts there.

Some guilds could goto/have gone to UOForums, good luck to them. Others, are back here or are still asking for new forums, back here. The two sets of forums should work together, conjointly to improve RP on UO. With F4G having the freedom to have the usual babble on RL topics and host for other games, such as WoW/EVE or even desktop RP games, which it has done in the past.

With regular maintenence these forums would cost nothing to support. I literally cant comprehend why you need to be getting donations of several hundred pound a year.
Pardon me for butting in, as this isn't really any of my business, but you are completely mistaken here.

Presuming f4g gets the same sort of activity that it did before, there is no way in hell that it could be hosted on a cheap hosting package that's on a shared server. What costs so much isn't the addons, or the space and bandwidth it uses, it's the CPU and memory requirements. When the database gets to a certain size, and there are a lot of people browsing the site all at once, it needs a lot of connections to the database, and hence CPU cycles.

You really wouldn't last very long on a shared hosting package with a forum of this kind, you'd get thrown off the server in no time. It requires a dedicated server, and that's what costs so much.

This isn't intended as a dig at UOFORUMS because they seem to have an excellent community - but it's their community not the Europa roleplay community.
And let me ask you something, how many of those members actively posted?
The reason there's "only" 926 registered members, is because every 90 days, I prune the member list of those who haven't logged in for 90 days and have less than 1 post (0 posts in other words)
If I didn't do that, it's more than likely we would be over 10,000 members by now, the amount of times it's peaked at 1000 members before dropping back down to 500 or so due to me purging the member count....well it's happened alot, hehe.
Stratics for instance has over 100,000 accounts, but i'd be willing to wager money that less than 1000 of those accounts actually post.

3) The layout of UOFORUMS and F4G is really bad. It's hard to find the forum you want, theres millions of links and the skins are bugged. If you want to attract players you need to pour effort into improving the first thing potential members will see - your website and forums.
Feedback is appreciated, what is buggy about the UOForums skin? what's so bad about it?
It's not hard to find the forum you want, everything in in categories
The great thing about VBulletin is you can shrink the forums you don't want to see, so only those you DO want to see, show up on the main page.
The option of removing entire categories/forums from view is also available once i've found the modification I want on vb.org.

And as I said in another post, if your there to post in a specific area, like a guild forum, all the GM has to do, is request a "quick link" to be setup, so all you'd need to do, is goto www.uoforums.com/core (For example)
Then there's no searching.

But please, if there's something i'm missing about the design being buggy, i'd appreciate it if you let me know.

4) The person who 'owns' the forums needs to be someone who is unbiased and pretty cool headed. No disrespect intended but some of the names being bandied around shouldnt be trusted with control of forums since they are too hotheaded.
I hope ya don't mean me :P
To be honest, I don't get involved with what's posted on the forums, I concentrate on the technical and maintanance side, so I am completely unbiased
I'm just there to maintain the place and fix it if anything goes wrong.

The issue mostly spoken of here isnt the forums themselves, its mostly all about how they are administrated, moderated etc.

I have plenty of friends who moderate, but its not something i myself can do. I am a firm believer in the saying, power corrupts.

What i want to know is are moderators policed?, how will the new forums handle disputes?. From reading this topic i can see people who read the words but not the meaning behind the words.

Cherries point is a good one from what i can see, no favoritism. That looks like it will be my selling point on uoforums.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an example, from this topic. And dont take it personal

Twothumb has his view, Rabin has his. Both have made their choice, and we accept that.
rabin mentions hes old enough to make his own mind up, and suddenly Twothumbs got the wrong end of the stick. Thinks hes been called a child, and to grow up. Which i cant see in the post by Rabin by the way. Then Rabin makes an off hand joke about growing up while explaining his post wasnt a personal attack on Twothumb.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now this simple misunderstanding is easily sorted, in my view. But from what i been reading its been blown up into something epic, but not by the original two posters.

But is it these who are told not to fan the flames, nope its Rabin who told not to. Which is basically throwing another log on. Where it been better to throw a bucket of cold water on.

An outside moderator will do what i did, and read the true meaning behind the posts, and not see one view because they like one person more than the other (which i am not saying happened, just one side was picked).

This is why i am for Cherrys view.

Incidently, in case anyone has wondered and since you are probably taking that for granted too, you have my permission to use the "CoRE Logo" images created by me on UOForums as well as on F4G and CoRE.Moongates.

Notice to Adam@UOForums: I can also adapt these graphics to suit your requirements for a personalised theme you may or may not create for CoRE on your forums.

Notice to Guildmasters: If I have created a guild-logo/banner for your forums, the same can be done. Just let me know and I will provide you with the graphics. Please review the specifics and requirements (size, dimensions, format) with Adam@UOForums first however.

Notice to others: If I have created a signature for you, I will need to upload this for you again and make certain that you can access it from UOForums. Please contact me via PM, etc. to sort this out. You, yourselves, will need to make certain that it fulfills the requirements (size, dimensions, format) set for signature images on UOForums and I will modify/resize the signature accordingly.

As we all know what went wrong her regarding backing up info and the loss of it, if people now move to other forums (including UOforums) will the lesson be learnt and people start to not rely on others all the time then throw a fit if servers die and the 0.0001% chance all is lost again comes into effect?

I think I'll keep a copy of any stories I write this time, often I'd just type it straight into the thread and not word.

Very intelligent of you. It's nicer to write straight into a post on the forum, just an easy copy paste after your done. Been doing that with all my stories.
