This discussion have gone off on wrong foot here. (in regards to other threads comments left and right)
My aim to start talks with uoforums wasnt meant to be a forced decision to move but rather looking at what choices we had , and I think i made it pretty clear to the ones i spoke to on icq while doing this.

I see how it could be viewed that im making decisions for everyone but I hope that people belive me when I say it wasnt done out of malice but rather out of a will to keep us all united.

If we start from page one on this discussion instead of making enemies of eachother when we all want the same thing then I think we can reach a good solution to this problem.

We had a irc chat (we as in a bunch of rpers from various guilds) earlier today and what we saw as the major points we should focus on was;

* Do we want/need total control over the server
* Do we want/need joining another community with its bad and good sides

Those are the major points really

The other things like how the boards will look and backup on the future posts is all covered on the alternatives we have to choice from.
And we all said that the other things like games, pets etc that are availble shouldnt matter since we after boards as priority one.
And also that the major focus should be on UO and RP on these boards

So what options is there?

1 F4G
2 UOFORUMS
3 MURADS PRIVATE SITE


1 > F4G means when its moved to Jolt and out of marty's hands and into Cals hands (or her bf on his job).

+ Total control of it
+ Admin and mods we already know
+ Known to our members


2 > UOFORUMS means that we would set it up like we had it on f4g but under their banner and be a subdivision there , and it would be in the hands of Adam the admin who runs the site.

+ Offical forums of UO alongside stratics which means Devs posts there and they read the boards
+ Alot of free traffic from other UO players from all across the shards
+ Its already up and running so least amount of work to get it going


3 > MURAD means it would be in the hands of a Murad whom is a long time rper and thus basicly in our hands

+ Most likely the most advanced choice since Murad loves to do stuff like this

I'm okay to set up wherever, although I would like to have a statement from all parties on backups. I don't want to rebuild again after this!

I'm not bothered about fringe benefits \ other forums since I'm only really concerned about posting for UO stuff.

Uoforums have stated that he backups every day to 3 diffrent sources for extra security

Jolt is a professional hosting company with current hardware, good connections and full time support staff, so there are regular backups. When sites go down, an alert is sent to the techs and the site can be rebooted quickly, or an engineer despatched if it's hardware related.
Basically you're talking about a company that works with companies like Turbine, Lionhead, Intel etc...they host actual MMOs, not just forums, so you don't need to worry about reliability.

I'm in favour ofthe F4G/Jolt solution, as already stated in other threads. I've seen nothing new in this thread that would make me change that opinion.

Sorry Cal, but I don't want to poke too deep into your private life. But this deal to host f4g on Jolt has nothing to do with this guy being your bf, or not? Not that you ever split up, which I don't hope will happen, and he then boots f4g out of spite from his servers? Sorry again for bringing this up here, but I'm kind of wary when it comes to deals involving boyfriends hehe.

I'm in favour of UOForums because it will give us a lot more publicity to new players and other shards.

I also think that staying with fagnet offers no real advantage to UOForums - it would be a smaller and more isolated community whereas at UOForums there will be new and exciting people to talk to and introduce to roleplay.

Change is good, and I see no real need to stay here now that our threads are lost (and yes we can get them back in text form but it still isn't easy).

I say go for a bigger community over at UOForums, because it's exciting and new.

I'd think he'd be slightly more professional than that, can't really see Cal dating the type of guy that throws his toys out of the pram.

Still it relies on what his bosses say so nothing too definate yet.

well call me paranoid. I'm wary of mixing "business" and "personal" stuff, so I guess it would be interesting who is behind the hosting proposal. Jolt the company, or Cal's boyfriend who just happened to work at Jolt.

No need to lay open your entire personal life hehe

Floria - I did some work for Jolt myself a while back so I already know the people there. Besides, Fred is definitely not a person to act out of spite. Without going into my personal life, it is nothing to worry about.

Main thing is we get a nice, well maintaine server that we can have to ourselves and not worry about carebear mods or being drowned amid a bunch of other forums.

Well i my opinion any of the options not to do with jolt will do me fine, because i hate jolt at the minute as i've just been banned from all their counter strike servers for quoting a line out of a rap because they say it was racism because of a racist word that was in it. But i didnt even get a warning or an admin say anything to me, which in the past i have seen people be directly racist to others and have 2 warnings before being banned. So they have ruined counter strike for me at the moment because i can no longer play with all the friends i have played with on them servers for the past 6 months, and i cant even tell them what happened to me. So Anything not to do with Jolt will do me fine , I dont mean to sound like i am having a bitch fit and that but i am really pissed off about it.

I dont forsee us being drowed among other forums , I see us taking a more central role as we always have on boards with our focus on rp being the main attraction on any boards.

I also dont see them being carebear mods there , just becuse they dont allow you to curse like a drunken sailor on public forums.
I say it rather is a positive thing and will teach people on how to rant or argue without curse words.

personally I'm in favour of UOforums, although the Jolt deal does not sound bad.

I think getting more exposure is the best that can happen to us. Many players of this community (Lyim, Hutula, myself,...) come from other servers than Europa. Since UOforums is an all shard forum, it will be very likely that curiosity drives other players to our forums to check out what we RPers are doing. What better can happen to a community that always seems to be on the edge because of a shrinking community? Also beats recruiting newbs in Haven I guess hehe
Devs post there. Our massive presence may given them a clue that RP in UO is still alive and kicking.
I'm all for more exposure and I think UOforums is moderated well enough so that it doesn't attract trolls who will harrass us for RPing.

2nd choice would be f4g for me. All the pros and cons of the past still apply to it, minus the backup issue and maybe money issue.
Also I would be happy if f4g would do away with this annoying "collect points to buy features" mini game. I want a forum without this fuzz. On UOforums I can change my title, chose whatever sig I want - right out of the box. F4g really has to do something about this.

3rd choice, Murad's forum. Sorry to say but I don't see anything that makes it better than f4g now that we have the option to move to jolt.
