Hello folks. I have met many of you over the years in various incarnations. Main characters are Chia Moro Grd, and Chaismene Volte: TM, Grd, GM of Borough of Yew, now in Dark Cloaks. I also had a character in the shortlived guild Vanguard. I left the roleplaying scene well over a year ago. Still played UO though, but not active in the community. Mainly playing the shopkeeper Serafi and other alts. I got tired of a community that seemed to always be on the verge of imploding on itself, the pettiness, the "my roleplay is better than yours" attitude, the "us vs them" when it really should be a "we". I hear things have changed for the better, at least between GMs - and that is why I decided to give it a whirl again. Thanks to all of you that have sticked around and managed to keep the rp up through some hard times, and ensuring that there is something to come back to. At it`s best, Europa rp can really be a mindblowing experience - something you hardly can get anywhere else. So, I am back, and looking forward to meet you all ingame ![]() And Callum, if you are reading this: get in touch! | ||||||||

Hey and welcome back. The EM events are a good way back in to role play and look like some fun. The ongoing story arcs are being covered mostly on Stratics and some of the guild forums here. Events are usually announced in advance and are peak Europa time - 8pm onwards. I dont use ICQ anymore - my new server at work blocks it and I dont have the time to use it as I once did. SCT is pretty much dead - Muldran has vanished and a lot of the rest moved to LOTRO with Twothumb, Tabbitha, Gnomy, ALynora, Garod, Venom and some more. I am hoping that once my wee lassies irl grow up a bit I will be back in game a lot more. But for now they come first and they are much much more fun than anything else. You can get in touch via PM here if you want anythign more or to talk =) But welcome back - RP is still here and still very much alive.

Who mentioned comparisant? It still is "us vs. them" no matter the scale of it. If we were a we, we'd have the one guild all with the same goal and ideas. But that's for another thread, which I hope doesn't arouse again.

| Well.. the OP? Quote:
Unless I'm mistaken, Chia was talking about a larger issue.. that being the notion that "high" and "low" fantasy negate one another. Pardon the rosey tint, but that just doesn't seem to be such a problem these days. I'd point to the normalisation in DoT-Grd relations as a key example of that, both in game and out of it. Acceptance has generally - though perhaps not fully - replaced contention.

I think he means the age old core, erpa, coy thing. That's pretty much dead now since almost all of the Gm's that exist now were not leading guilds back then, so any old conflicts have also vanished as far as i know. The community seems fairly active, but compared to what? Five years ago? There wont ever be that activity again, sad as it is. That combined with the fact that most of the events/storylines revolve around war after war these days and you have the reasons i wont be coming back anytime soon.

You can't really say war destroys activity, it's really a two sided coin. If Grd enter a war, and god forbid, we win. Our activity booms. The effect of losing a war can be quite bad unless it's dealt with properly. As Grd approaches 200 members, you cannot claim activity is bad. It hasn't been anywhere near 200 for 4/5 years at least.

I find it hard to believe that any guild, Grd or otherwise, has nearly 200 active members when UO is in such a sorry state. If that's true then well done to you.

Europa RP's not really in such a sorry state. UO as a whole has a fair amount of new players joining with the dawn of SA and the roleplaying guilds are by my estimation more active and certainly more co-operative than they were even a year or two ago. No, we'll never reach the dizzy heights we all yearn for but RP might very well be cyclical and perhaps if we play our cards right we're headed for or even currently experiencing another mini-boom period.
