As you know, we held the reception for the opening of the Salon on Saturday, and I would very much like to express my sincere gratitude for the professionalism and steady leadership of Captain Kaelyn.

Due to the intimate space within the Salon, most of the festivities took place outside at tables where people gathered to enjoy the extensive spread Stewan Seagull prepared for us (the man is a marvel of the culinary arts, Your Grace. I highly recommend him).

At one point, Captain Kaelyn quietly took me aside to inform me that soldiers of Vesper were sighted in the area. Captain Kaelyn was at all times calm and concise, and being that we did not know Vesper’s intentions, I decided to continue the party.

It was not long after this that indeed, about half dozen men arrived dressed in the uniforms of Vesper. Adam and I welcomed them as guests and bade them eat and drink. The Vesperians occupied several tables and enjoyed Stewan’s food and wine for some time.

There is no denying that tension rose considerably while they were present, but Captain Kaelyn maintained the discipline of the guards and eased the apprehensions of other guests while the Vesperians visited and the party progressed without incident.

Your Grace, this was a situation that could have easily turned bloody with just one impulsive or misguided act. I cannot help but think that had Captain Kaelyn not been there, things might have turned very ugly very quickly. She was deferential to my desires to make the Vesperians welcome and I am grateful for her quiet support of my decision, and even more so for seeing that the reception did not turn into a battle.

The Duchy is fortunate to have Captain Kaelyn leading its guard.

I regret that Your Grace could not attend the opening, and I sincerely hope we might host you at the Salon soon. I can tell you, I had the pleasure of reading the cards for your son after the reception ended.

Adam and I are even now entertaining the idea of setting weekly hours to entertain at the Salon. Alas, the nature of my being would place these hours quite late at night, but I would also still exercise my license to read the Tarot at the Anchor on occasions during more hospitable evening hours.

Regardless, I sincerely hope we will have the pleasure of your company soon.

Dear Alraune,

Thank you for your letter; I am very pleased to know that the Salon evening was a success and equally pleased to hear that you are planning more of them. I apologise for my absence from this one and will do my best to attend the next. As you know I had hoped to be there, but I was unfortunately called away on urgent business.

Thank you also for informing me about Kaelyn's actions. I am well aware of her sterling qualities. She herself does not appreciate them, but I have no doubt that she is the best person for the Captain position. I am glad that she continues to prove this.
