Brainstorming with Antar

Antar: Any progress on your scroll?
Stewan Seagull: some

Antar: Oh? That is good. Will you be able to perform it then?
Stewan Seagull: *shakes head*
Stewan Seagull: I still cant place all the reagents
Stewan Seagull: and what I think are the foci
Stewan Seagull: are givin me troubles too
Antar: Why?
Stewan Seagull: because
Stewan Seagull: if it is a Captured Essence
Stewan Seagull: or even two that are asked for
Stewan Seagull: *shrugs*
Antar: Captured Essence of what?
Stewan Seagull: Theyre hard to come by
Stewan Seagull: it just says captured essence
Stewan Seagull: I still hope that I read that line wrong
Antar: Maybe you can do it without, too?
Stewan Seagull: Didnt yer say
Stewan Seagull: that leavin things out can be very dangerous?
Antar: Hmm, depends on what is left out.
Antar: *smirks*

Antar: Maybe you can capture the essence of something else instead?
Stewan Seagull: Hmm...
Stewan Seagull: I wondered that, but the plant circle
Stewan Seagull: is the one used first
Stewan Seagull: I think a plant is needed as focus here
Stewan Seagull: The essence is used
Stewan Seagull: in the second and third circle
Stewan Seagull: that are supposed to lead to a fire creature
Stewan Seagull: and leak its energy
Antar: Lead to it?
Stewan Seagull: *nods*
Stewan Seagull: thats what the gargoyle meant, I think
Antar: How...?
Stewan Seagull: Not sure
Stewan Seagull: make a straight line somehow

Antar: Show the way? Lead to something? That sounds odd.
Antar: Maybe it is more the alignment of the whole thing?
Antar: After all, how would a circle lead to anything?
Stewan Seagull: no, the line
Stewan Seagull: is...emitted from the circle somehow
Antar: That was not in the scroll?
Stewan Seagull: No, Its somethin the gargoyle came up with

Antar: Ah, there. Page 8 of the notes you gave me
Antar: Directions and so on, is that what you meant with lines?
Antar: And the next page, saying aphelion and direction
Stewan Seagull: In the original its that small diagonal thing
Stewan Seagull: I had put that with the odd symbols beside the maps

Antar: Maybe those things are where the aphelion goes to?
Antar: Like, aphelion direction towards daemons?

Stewan Seagull: one cant draw the circle without knowing the aphelion direction
Antar: And this might tell it?
Stewan Seagull: so the circle cant be used to find it?
Antar: All i see if that it says "aphelion direction"

Stewan Seagull: Anyhow..
Stewan Seagull: Antar, can yer explain yer system regardin those directions?
Antar: I just focus on the spot where it names aphelion and direction together
Antar: Then elsewhere, it gives directions for a circle
Antar: So I thought the direction of a circle might be where aphelion points to?
Antar: What if you don't need the volcanoe but use the directions it gives you?
Antar: It tells you about the aphelion and directions
Antar: It says direction daemons and two circles
Antar: So two circles have daemons as direction
Antar: And elsewhere it says aphelion and direction are connected.
Antar: So the aphelion points towards daemons?

Dosei: Or... provide your own daemons?
Stewan Seagull: I dont have any at my disposal, sorry
Antar: Aiming for fire isle seems to be quite safe. Own daemons might move in a bad time.
Antar: Can just picture one of the critters running in circles laughing while you try to cast.
Stewan Seagull: Aye
Antar: It seems unwise to add more instable components to an already touchy ritual.
Stewan Seagull: aye
Stewan Seagull: like fuzzy directions
Antar: Better than -your- locations.

Dosei: Can you be certain that you're not just preparing another Magincia?
Dosei: Just, under the belief that it's something else?
Stewan Seagull: Quite
Stewan Seagull: of course there IS a minimal risk...
Stewan Seagull: but that absolutely insignificant
Antar: Well, usually you can tell some from the reagents and circles on what will happen
Antar: From what I gather it does not seem the end-of-the-world-type-magic

Antar: So Stewan, where do you put your aphelion?
Antar: Since you do not like my theory
Stewan Seagull: actually, it doesnt make much of a difference
Antar: It does not?
Stewan Seagull: both the Maze and the volcano are to the west
Stewan Seagull: and Hythloth and fire isle are to the east
Antar: Thats like a big difference
Stewan Seagull: Aye but no matter if your or my theory are right
Stewan Seagull: We have both directions to choose from
Stewan Seagull: and those to the west are closer

...some hours of pointless bickering later ...

Stewan Seagull: Hmm... theres a transcript of our talk with the gargoyle
Antar: Oh?
Stewan Seagull: in the public archives
Antar: They were closed for repairs earlier
Stewan Seagull: That are unfortunately closed at the moment
Stewan Seagull: *nods*
Antar: I will try tomorrow
Antar: I still like my theory though unless something better provides itself.

....

Antar: So we need more and charge up the main circle with the outside ones
Stewan Seagull: Thats how I imagine it
Antar: Then I don't think we should stop and get directions in between?
Stewan Seagull: Maybe the Great Tree is used to house the Spirit?
Antar: It should all be set up
Stewan Seagull: Silamo seemed to be very insistant
Stewan Seagull: that there was pointing involved
Antar: My theory of the aphelion pointing to those places is very much pointy.
Antar: How much more pointy can you point?
Stewan Seagull: he said the circles lead to something
Stewan Seagull: "Trak" was the word he used
Stewan Seagull: And yer point is?
Antar: If you follow the lead of the aphelion you get there?
Antar: If you set it right, that is.
Stewan Seagull: So maybe the circles turn
Stewan Seagull: Because if I knew the answer afore
Antar: I still think its all about how to align them.
Stewan Seagull: I dont need to ask?

Antar: If you refuse my theory then how do you align the aphelion of the circles?
Stewan Seagull: I stay with volcano
Stewan Seagull: all go west
Antar: *sighs*
Antar: Fine, you do that then.
Stewan Seagull: Well, there are but three volcanoes
Stewan Seagull: but hundreds of demons and trees
Antar: As I said, go with those then
-------------------------------------------------------------------

*Maybe Antar has a point, but if so, where do the Aphelions go?

The pieces of text he was going on about:
(top left)
Directions Daemons "Y" "O"
Great Tree "P"
Middle Of All "Z"

(right and down from maps, small diagonal insert)
Aphelion Direction

At the left-top of this small insert are the Symbols "Crown" "O" "Double Cross on Hill" that also appear in the symbol square (See pic a few posts up).

It makes sense, but i doubt two sets of symbols, one of them more complicated, would be used for the same two fields (?).
I though a field was when two symbols are underlined completely?

M = |M + M| Points rather than fields?

Probably right, at least it´s our work-theory. I rely on the human element of laziness here "Oh i can leave out two lines, great!"

Also, I´m happy to tell we finally managed to solve the "underlined symbol" problem.
Seems a bit of ink-eating insect refuse changed M|^| into |M ^| *cough*
So.. fields are marked by two(or three in one case) combined symbols, underlined. The field they describe is the one between them.

Circles are drawn, candles in place, reagents are complete - let´s wait for the go and then make a second "Burning of Trinsic"

Thanks to all that helped figuring things out and collecting the reagents!
