The Forest Oracle

The first talk with the Forest Oracle, retold by Stewan:

Stewan Seagull: Hello? Someone home?
Stewan Seagull: *knocks on tree*
Forest Oracle: Someone is always at home.
Stewan Seagull: hmm... good answer

Stewan Seagull: hmm... wait
Stewan Seagull: *looks closely at the trunk*
Stewan Seagull: theres carvings or somesuch
Dosei: what do they say?
Stewan Seagull: wish I knew

Stewan Seagull: what do the carvings on this tree mean?
Forest Oracle: They mean all and nothing.

Dosei: That was incredibly unhelpfull...
Stewan Seagull: It speaks and answers questions
Stewan Seagull: in typical oracle fashion

Dosei: Oracle... what is my name?
Dosei: Since no one's used my name around here...
Forest Oracle: Many tongues, many thoughts make many names.

Dosei: You didn't have to use my full name...
Dosei: what is the name the people of Trinsic know me by?
Forest Oracle: Daemon wench

Dosei: someone else can ask
Dosei: I feel insulted

Kaelyn: ah think it knows some things
Kaelyn: we shoul' though work on our questions
Stewan Seagull: try somethin mathematical
Kaelyn: it is an oracle
Kaelyn: nay a teacher
Stewan Seagull: work on our questions?
Kaelyn: well it is an oracle
Kaelyn: need ter put our questions the right way
Kaelyn: but ask maybe we get a useful answer

Stewan Seagull: Where is the grimoire that Silamo asked us to find?
Forest Oracle: Where the roots may not hold and the waters never fall.

Zefar Natereri: Snowy lands?
Stewan Seagull: water falls there
Dosei: Or a desert?
Stewan Seagull: as snow
Stewan Seagull: and it rains in deserts too
Dosei: The abyss
Stewan Seagull: any rocky underground place
Dosei: Water falls from the roof of underground places
Stewan Seagull: true
Dosei: and forms Stalagmites and stalagtites
Dosei: The only place water won't fall is a place where there is no water
Dosei: Or
Dosei: somewhere where there is nothing by water?
Stewan Seagull: hmm... lets get numeral then
Dosei: could you not ask it for map coordinates?
Stewan Seagull: *nods* thats what i meant by numerical

Stewan Seagull: What are the books coordinates in the system that uses Lord Britishs throne as point zero?
Forest Oracle: Where the roots may not hold, the seeds will not sprout and no knowledge may grow.

Stewan Seagull: seeds will sprout almost everywhere...
Stewan Seagull: but on the highest mountains
Stewan Seagull: the deepest sea
Stewan Seagull: or the coldest icefields

Reann: ask it why no knowledge may grow there......
Stewan Seagull: Why does no knowledge grow in that place?
Forest Oracle: Where my roots will not grow no knowledge will flow.

Reann: does that mean it has never known life?
Stewan Seagull: I think, it cant see where no plants grow
Stewan Seagull: no knowledge flows from there
Stewan Seagull: or to there
Reann: hmm so we can't narrow the location down from that...

Reann: hmm.. the part to focus on i think would be that water never falls there...
Reann: can it tell us why water doesn't fall there...
Kaelyn: caves
Stewan Seagull: try yer luck Reann
Kaelyn: but even caves have waterfalls?
Stewan Seagull: and flowstones
Stewan Seagull: as Dosei said already

Reann: why does no water fall at the location we seek?
Forest Oracle: Where there is nowhere to fall to nothing may fall.

Stewan Seagull: Is it the place that the broken Moongate in Magincia leads to?
Forest Oracle: The roots burn on the isle, they wither and rot.

Stewan Seagull: Dint it just say there was nothin to fall to?
Stewan Seagull: and its an Isle?
Stewan Seagull: it just said roots burn on the isle

Stewan Seagull: Is Fire Temple the place we seek?
Forest Oracle: You may seek many places, yet you will not find the book in them.

Zefar Natereri: Maybeh it needs tuh beh summoned or things.
Stewan Seagull: good point. ask it

Zefar Natereri: Oracle thing...
Zefar Natereri: Is the place we is seek for right here?
Forest Oracle: You seek no place.
Zefar Natereri: So we found it alreadeh?
Forest Oracle: if you had found it, would you ask for it?
Zefar Natereri: Can we summon the book thing with magic rituals an' stuff?
Forest Oracle: No magic is needed to bring forth its bearer.

Stewan Seagull: keep goin Zef... yer have a trail there
Kaelyn: aha so someone has it!
Zefar Natereri: Ehm..
Stewan Seagull: bring forth the bearer...
Zefar Natereri: What's a bearer?
Reann: someone who holds it...
Stewan Seagull: one that carries somethin
Reann: a keeper... a guardian... and many other names...

Zefar Natereri: What colour is this bearer thing?
Forest Oracle: Many lights make many colours.
Reann: what race is the bearer?
Zefar Natereri: What race is it?
Forest Oracle: *wavers softly in the breeze*

Stewan Seagull: How can we bring forth the bearer?
Forest Oracle: Give it what it desires.
Stewan Seagull: What does it desire?
Forest Oracle: Feed it

Zefar Natereri: Water!
Stewan Seagull: I dont want to feed an "It"
Stewan Seagull: Its feed on the oddest things

Stewan Seagull: What does the bearer feed on?
Forest Oracle: Meat
Stewan Seagull: How does it like its meat?
Stewan Seagull: *waits*
Forest Oracle: *wavers in the wind*
Stewan Seagull: Does the bearer crave any special meat?
Forest Oracle: It feeds on what it can catch.

Kaelyn: so we know there is a beareer shimmerin in many colours
Kaelyn: where no water falls
Zefar Natereri: You think it is whippin' vine plant?
Kaelyn: it feeds what it can catch
Kaelyn: animals do
Kaelyn: we feed on different things
Kaelyn: so it is an animal
Stewan Seagull: some plants do too
Stewan Seagull: like corpsers and the like

Stewan Seagull: Is the bearer a plant?
Forest Oracle: Where it lives no roots may grow and no leafs unfold.

Kaelyn: but where is the place where it nay rains?
Kaelyn: caves?
Kaelyn: it nay rins in caves
Kaelyn: but there are waterfalls
Kaelyn: was it rain?
Kaelyn: or water fall?
Stewan Seagull: water falls
Stewan Seagull: not rain specifically

Kaelyn: where we fin' the meat the creature craves?
Forest Oracle: On your bones
Kaelyn: where is it close?
Forest Oracle: Close to where the serpents wind
Kaelyn: is it under the earth the place we seek?
Kaelyn: where nay water it can reach?
Forest Oracle: You seek no place.
Kaelyn: is the bearer under the earth in a cave then?
Forest Oracle: No earth, no stone.
Kaelyn: is it water then?
Forest Oracle: Surrounded by water
Kaelyn: n' damn can we fin' a map ter the place!
Forest Oracle: No map will show where to seek.

Stewan Seagull: So... surrounded by water
Stewan Seagull: with serpents
Stewan Seagull: but on no map?

Stewan Seagull: How do we find the bearer?
Reann: *looks over a few notes...*
Kaelyn: seems it nay talks ter us any more
