Diamonds and Daemons

“Don’t fail me, Khamar… “

“Yes, your lordship…” Khamar responded as he bowed his head lower, regarding the demonic voice coming to him from the darkness with the highest respect.

“Soon things will be ready for you in the world of mortals. The possessed human is almost done with the ritual.” Two red eyes appeared from the darkness as the daemon spoke, glaring directly at Khamar. “You are working on borrowed time, MY time… Very few mortals get a second chance like this, Khamar… see that you make it well worth my while…”

“Of course,” Khamar answered as he bowed his head once more, his entity slowly fading from the dark abyss as his spirit was pulled back into the living world.

---------------------------------------------------------

“Thirteen innocents…” the man muttered as he approached the stone table, gripping a large diamond in his hand. It was dripping with the fresh blood of thirteen innocent people, their bodies still lying around the room. “The body, now dead…” he continued to mumble incoherently as he eyed the skeleton lying on the table, Khamar’s corpse. “Brought back…” he whispered, setting the diamond over the chest of the rotting skeleton.

The diamond started to glow, lifting itself and hovering over Khamar’s corpse as demonic power from the other side began to intervene. The bodies around the room, including the possessed man, began to deteriorate, their flesh melting and the resulting red sludge evaporating into nothing just as fast. As this happened, blood started to flow from the diamond like a waterfall, pouring around Khamar’s corpse and turning into new flesh. As human blood and demonic power flowed through the diamond, the large stone slowly turned pitch black. Within minutes, dead bodies around the room were now reduced to dust, and Khamar’s body had been restored.

Khamar groaned, slowly sitting upright on the stone table. He opened his eyes; his right eye still lacked any color, blind as before. His left now had a red iris.

“Cold…” he thought, as he looked around the dark stone room. “Something I haven’t felt in a very long time…” Sighing, he thought back on the speech that had been given to him just moments ago.

“When you go back to the world of mortals, a black diamond will be waiting for you. That stone is what we will use to open a hole for you, a “gate way” from this world into that one. You may even continue to use it as such, using the diamond to conjure fire and lesser hell spawn should you need the aid. Bringing larger daemons through will take more power, though… you may even need to use energy from a mortal soul. Another factor in the diamonds power is the current level of “evil” in the world of mortals. If the majority of the population is leaning towards “good”, rather than evil, the diamonds power will be weaker than it would be otherwise. Promote vice and violence in any way you can, Khamar. Your continued existence may depend on it. All your power now comes from that diamond. If you are separated from it for long, or it is destroyed, your extra time may very well be up. It IS a diamond, and will not be broken easily, but you should still take great care in trying to protect it. What’s more, we may be using mortal flesh to bring you back, but your soul has existed in the darkness for some time now…your damned soul is now not much unlike that of a daemons. Holy water and religious symbols will be nothing short of intolerable to you. Avoid such things at all costs. If you fail, die again, and come back here before I send for you… then you will learn agony like you never knew existed.”

Khamar opened his eyes again after he finished reviewing the speech in his mind. Looking to his left, there was the black diamond, lying on the table next to him. Reaching out, he grinned as he lifted it and gazed into his reflection. “Mid thirties!?” he called out. “It’s not like it would have killed him to bring me back a few years younger than this” he rolled his eyes once as he moved off the stone table. “And still blind in one eye…” Stepping over dusty skeletons, Khamar pondered as he made his way to the door. “All I have to do is promote sin, and gather a soul here and there…” He muttered as he glanced to the black diamond still in his grasp. “Nothing I can’t handle.”

The hell crow screeched a hideous noise, bursting into flames as it struck a tree, barley missing the target. Amaretto screamed in horror as the sparks flew at her.

Damn this forest...

Khamar glared as he ran after Amaretto, blasting any plant life out of his path with bursts of black fire conjured by his diamond. "You can't fun forever..."

Another hell crow was conjured and barely missed Amaretto, bursting into flames like that last. She ran with all the energy she had, trying to get somewhere, anywhere that was away from him. Khamar had been Amaretto 's father when he was alive. Now, all he cared was that she did nothing to try to bring him back.

Besides... Khamar thought to himself, grinning darkly. The diamond needs energy, and who’s soul could possibly be more powerful than that of my own offspring?

Amaretto started to head for a clearing near the mountains, running to a house and screaming for help.

No doubt a friend of hers... How selfish of her to throw their lives away like this.

Amaretto ran around the house, nearly collapsing into the front door as she reached it, hitting and kicking the door franticly so someone would hear her, so someone would save her.

"It's no use." Khamar glared as he walked up behind her.

"NO!" she screamed as she ran around the house, reaching a dead end between the house and the yard fence. Amaretto immediately began climbing the fence. She was almost over when she felt cold iron piercing into her back.

"You did NOTHING" Khamar snarled as he twisted the blade. "I left spells, notes, entire books on the art of dark magic, and you didn't even attempt to bring me back!!" Khamar yelled as he sunk the knife deeper, savoring the sound of Amaretto’s gurgling gasps, blood starting to pool from her mouth. "Now, I owe my soul to a daemon just so I could finish what I started! You and your whore of a mother NEVER appreciated what I am, what I plan to do for this miserable little world!" Khamar yanked the knife from Amaretto’s body, a sinister grin creeping across his face as she fell to the ground limp.

Khamar glanced down at himself, glaring yet again as he looked back to Amaretto. "And was all that running really necessary? Look at what you've done to my outfit! This wasn't cheap, you know... the last thing I needed to do was go running around the forest for half an hour..." Khamar muttered as he kneeled down and gripped Amaretto’s dress, using the fabric to wipe the blood from his knife before putting it away.

Now then...

Khamar stood up slowly. He snapped his fingers, and two hell crows appeared from sparks and smoke. "You know what to do..." Khamar ordered them as he pointed to the corpse. In moments, Khamar and his hell crows turned the murder scene into a sight that he hoped would be described on the next morning’s paper.

I love to read about my work... still, it would have helped if I had more than one body... Khamar thought as he walked away, pulling a small black book from a pocket in his cloak. Amaretto... he mouthed silently as he wrote the name in the book. The book was filled with the names of his victims. Amaretto shared a page with names including Taylor Ordale, Chris Hunt, and Domnick Lanoor. Khamar grinned at the book a moment before slipping it away. The book like many other possessions had been found among the ruins of his former tower.

Khamar looked to the diamond around his neck. The stone was glowing with an eerie gleam due to its recent feast on the soul of Khamar’s latest victim. A dark smirk crept across his face.

Soon...
