Writings of Fain

In an old vacant house located near the Snakehills of Vesper, Padan once again squatted. The place had long since been abandoned by an old Liberator of Vesper, likely dead for all Padan knew. The furniture had cobwebs and dust settling on it, and rats had moved in. This didn't bother him though, as he had other things on his mind.

On the walls are writings written in chalk, mostly incoherent nonsense and only revealing the thoughts of a deranged madman to those who happen to stumble upon it, but who would enter a condemned Liberators house besides the strays of Sosaria?

One passage reads,

"On the walls of my abode, I submit to thee an insight into brilliance,
A mind not bound by the laws and virtues of the commoner, No lies are told.
Here brothers, we are safe from those that condemn us, rest and recover.
But do not linger.
It was I that orchestrated the Yells of Yew. It was I that ended their dreams.
It was I that sent them to the deep sleep of the Beyond to be Judged and Condemned.
Long have those that hold me in confidence watched us, and judged us.
*Next line is not legible*
Thus we wait and watch them, for they know not of whom they have brought into their houses.
Whom they trust their children and wives with.
Whom they call outcast and mock and belittle.
The Yells of Yew will come again, for they cannot stop us.
We have tasted the sensation once more, and found the taste too sweet to give up.
Rest now brothers.
But do NOT linger."

*More writings on the walls*

I'll wring my hands and gnash my teeth
And I'll pound the ground like fresh red beef.
The memory of your touch I once had
Will slowly, surely drive me mad;
Or...has it already?

August 15th
Mourn not the loss, but the memory if you must.
Weeds are we, and weeds get cut.
No longer desired, they must be cut.
His child, oh his dear child. Taken in the Night.
Wife, oh poor beloved wife.
What could inflict more despair upon someone,
than their child snatched in the night?
A child that never returns.
For no longer shall the child be raised by her parents,
but by Another.

August 28.

Too long have these walls remained silent.
That ends now brothers.
A new despair is about to reap its glory upon the world
I bid thee welcome to feast your eyes upon it
Heretic, criminal, creature, and vile heathen they have called us,
It is time to live up to those names,
If that is what is bestowed upon us.
Linger not in the halls of Sleep this night,
For We are coming.

*Written in a small cheap room at a local tavern in Britain, chalk writings fill every possible area on the walls, most deranged nonsense about the Moot*

One passage reads;

Here we are once again where We started.
Long ago We walked these streets and made a living.
The time for peace? No! *"No" is written with an obsessive amount of chalk*
Darts are here....pretty Lady.
Threatened us they have, taken from us our limbs and sight!
Kiran, ever weak and cautious, would not dare allow us.
We work alone this time. Retribution will come.
An eye for an eye....a limb for a limb...
Thus is the way of Things, and thus it shall Be.
Darts will know Fear. They have heard the Voices and Ignored.
They have ignored us.
Darts will know Fear...

The end of Padan Fain

As he lay on the ground badly beaten and broken in the Warriors Guild in Western Britain, Padan Fain remained silent but his mind did not.

-Fain. "Whimper more you fool, they are getting rather aggressive...."

-Padan "It hurts...it hurts!"

The room was being filled with more and more Yewish troops, as Padan Fains resolve started to fade with every beating. He had been beaten and tortured severely by them over the last week or so, and no longer could his body sustain the injuries. As the questioning intensified as well as the beatings, there seemed little choice for the opportunistic pair of men that was Padan Fain.

-Fain. "Hmm...this does not bode well...tell them everything. Maybe they will let us go."

-Padan. "Do you really think they will let us go?" the voice asked hopefully.

-Fain. "There's a chance...now take it and pray to your Avatar".

As Padan Fain spilled his guts, confessing to the Mill Murders and the events that take place deep in the cellars of the Swaggers Inn, it seemed clear that not all was going as planned.

-Padan "T-they're going to execute us! You did this!"

-Fain "Yes, clearly you are not whimpering enough you little girl...".

-Padan. "But we did a terrible thing! All those people...dead because of us!".

-Fain. "By the Abyss, tell them and not me! Show remorse. I cannot do so convincingly enough...for I harbour none of it.".

The judgement was made, even with all the sobbing and wailing that Padan could muster. He was to be executed in Yew at once. Taken there under heavy guard and killed in the town centre. The beatings he had been given had rendered him unconcious for the better part of the march to Yew, but as he regained conciousness, it was already far too late.

As he was put on his knees, awaiting the axe, a battle of immense proportions waged in his head.

-Padan. "Do something! Kill them! Let us run and take our chances!"

-Fain. "Run with one leg? Clearly you are stupider than I had at first given you credit. The end is near. Embrace it.".

-Padan. "Who will take the axe?".

-Fain. "Oh you will old friend. You will be the one that suffers. Too long have I endured hearing you whine and cry at every opportunity given. Time you grew up.".

-Padan. Fain? Fain?! FAIN!".

The axe lunged into the back of Padans neck, his body stiffening and mouth filling and gurgling with blood. The axe did not decapitate his head the first time around. The Yewish soldiers took great delight in seeing the agony evident on his face as he was not quite dead yet and took their time before the next try.

-Padan. "You w-will wait for me yes?" but was answered with a silence he had not known for decades. For all the misery that Fain had caused him, he was Padans constant companion in his long travels, and for better or worse, his protector. Pure despair and fear filled his thoughts as he was now all alone in the world.

The axe struck again, this time clearly severing his head, and ending the madness of what was once Padan Fain.
