Covian's Sail the High Seas!
Snippet from the Covian News

There had been hints and rumours, but this day it was finally confirmed - Cove was a naval power once again!

The Baron hosted a special Promotions Parade at the Covian Docks and spoke of the previous navies. The first had been sunk by the orcs and the second had been sunk by Ryan Greystone. But the Baron decided it it was high time for Cove to rule the waves. The Baron revealed that he had "scoured the ranks of the Covian officers" but sadly he had to make do with Garak.

Officer Cadet Garak Nightchill, formerly of the Light Company, was formally promoted to Lieutenant, the naval equivelent of Sergeant, and unveiled the new Naval uniform. Those wishing to join the navy can speak with Lt. Nightchill for information.

The Baron then revealed that a creature had been lurking in the depths of the Covian loch, and that those assembled would now set sail to defeat it! The Covians, willing and unwilling, then boarded the H.B.S Battleborn and set sail. Despite some near misses, the Lieutenant managed to navigate the ship into deeper waters, and began casting nets into the sea to attract the vicious creature of the deep.

The creatures of the deep then attacked the Covians but were not match for these seafaring stalwarts! After killing the serpents and krakens, the Covians then lured something even bigger... A Leviathan!

Despite some injuries, the beast was slain, the wounded healed and the creature corpses thrown overboard. The ship returned safely to Cove, though Exploring Officer Eason was declared Missing. No doubt he'll wash ashore sooner or later....

Moonglow Under Attack!

It seems that Dark Wisps have invaded the Lycaneum of Moonglow and also the Dungeon in Ilshenar known as "Wisp Dungeon".

These dark versions of the normally friendly wisps [friendly unless you happen to be a brutal murdering lying cheating cad - the wisps know you know!] are appearing more commonly around the lands and they leave behind strange chests when killed.

But what language do they speak?

Do they speak differently from their pinky cousins?

Many are worried for the major works of arcane knowledge allegedly held in secret vaults under Moonglow and more worrying is the Lycaneum's helpful [if not too bright] workers from the Ashen Circle!

Spent an interesting evening chatting with Rand "Quickie" Darkmore... Loose lips sink ships - the port of Vesper should be flooded with sunken wrecks at this rate.

Not only did the over-the-hill-soldier take great pleasure in telling how an aggressive troop of Vesperians and Covians slaughtered not only the guards of Stonekeep, but had no compunction about running through the women and the children, on the command of one Hrothgar.

Your distressed reporter managed to keep the dirty old man from going to far as he also imparted the cringingly embarassing news about House Davion being impotent - no doubt some back handed attempt to try and show that the Poste is making things up. Of course, Davion's verility is not in question - but the lifespan of this foolish old guard may well be...

Your intrepid reporter was also threatened by a group calling themselves 'Courtiers' - nothing courtly about this lot!

The one in dark armor may have used nice words, but the helmet-head one - when questioned about the Shadow Court's recent involvement in the disaster that hit Moonglow - reacted violently, threatening to view the Poste, and freedom of speech as a dark force!

Their posturing against a lone Templar didn't help matters either - and as for the girl in the red dress with the dead cat on her head - she even threatened to cast a spell to scare your darling reporter away! Well, the Poste is made of sterner stuff, and will stand up against this all-new all-sinister Shadow Court!

Klion D’Gar A Hero for our times

It seems that to some the uncouth youth of Yew are little more than savages. To others however, Klion and the Yewmen are the saviours of the facet! Their no nonsense approach to heretics and those who dabble in magic is to be admired not criticized.

If there were less mages around and less “necromancers” – 10 a penny conjurors who can “raise the dead” – the facet would be a much safer place.

So I say – go and burn the deviants Klion!


Where is the Commander?

Cal Soulshadow – buxom beauty with her eye on any loose men and rumored to have thighs which could rip a mans finger off – seems to have gone awol – and at the same time grumpy drunkard General Paladis seems to have emerged from an alcoholic induced stupor. Coincidence? Or is one of them just the other in disguise?

On a serious note – any news of the commander’s whereabouts would be welcome.

Cove is Under Attack!

Not from Twothumbs Vesper Militia – but from a colony of wood eating weevils the size of a pin head. Alchemists and scholars say the attack could have serious implications for the town of Cove and its inhabitants – watch this space!

People have been "throwing" themselves off the cliffs of Sosaria and swimming around in the sea baiting the local dolphins. When a dolphin gets close enough the crazy loons have been grabbing its dorsal fin and being dragged along through the "surf" as they call it.

Trinsic on High Alert due to Bomb Threat

Ye New Spiritwood Tavern: New Management!

The Spiritwood Tavern knows a very long history, going back to before Trammel was even discovered, and today we started yet another chapter.
When we re-opened the Tavern in January this year we were essentially squatters. We got consent from one of the old employees (Thanks Jenny!) but the owner, The Red Wizard AKA Pad O'Lion, was nowhere to be found. Jenny could only grant us very limited access to the buildings facilities but we managed to run the Tavern pretty succesfully nonetheless.
This situation lasted up untill today. For today The Red Wizard finally returned to his tavern and after seeing all the hard work we put into it he decided to let the squatters keep the building!

We emmediately got out our 'dream tavern file', hired contractors and started planning. After almost a week of intense labor, hours of carpenting, tinkering and moving around furniture, the work is finally done.

Yes it’s the tournament you’ve all been waiting for! The 17th* Armsmaster event will take part next Sunday the 22nd of April! Here we will find are new Armsmaster Champion!

What is the Arms-masters Tournament?
Its a chance to prove your worth among the people of Cove, each man or woman is up with a suit of armour and a weapon of their choice and use this to compete in the biggest tournament of the year.

When is the Arms-masters Tournament held?
The Tournament will take place on a Sunday of every month

How does it work?
As i said, each participant will be given a suit of armour and weapon and their names entered and then they will be drawn out of a hat on the day and pitted against each other in armed combat and the winner advances into the next round, a sort of knock out tournament.

Who can take part?
Anyone in Cove can take part in the Tournament, that’s right, not just the Guards !

Wow ! so what do i win?
You win the respect of your fellow Covians and your name will be noted down and added to the Archive of Champions, where people will be able to see your winners and losers for each Tournament. (Winning this Tournament is a requirement of the Commander rank, if you are allegable)

*- No Arcane usage of any kind (Magery, Chivalry, Necromancy or Spirit Speak)
*- No Bushido or Ninjitsu
*- No Potions of any kind (Including smokebombs)
*- No poisons of anykind

Emissary Arrested Shock!

Today, at an early morning raid the Templar Guards lead by Sergeant Landrell arrested Sari-Liane and charged her with crimes of Heresy. It is suspected that her act of volence with Kiran and the owners of the Swaggers was the final straw for the Templars. Although the Duty Office declined to allow us to talk to the Emissary they have released the following public statement:

This morning Templar Guards arrested the Emissary at her office. Sergeant Landrell charged her with the following crimes:

- Public disagreement of the ethics, laws and faith
- Cursing the Holy Family
- Act Of Heresy towards the faith

These were in relation to a number of offenses carried out over the past three weeks not limited to but including: Assaulting a member of the public, Surrendering without the consent of the High Council, Blasemphy and Directive acts of a chaotic nature.

It has been decided that a trial will need to be set with a council of Magistrates and Peers to decide her fate. This will be announced shortly. Templar Sergeant Landrell has been nominated as her prosecutor and Sari has asked not to be represented.

The Emissary has also asked that we announce that because of these charges, she has been removed from office and is no-longer Emissary to the People. As with the ways of the Silvarius Masters, she has been removed from their scriptures and ordences.

Report on the New Tarot Reading Salon

Alraune Kestrel read the tarot for the great and the humble. In her Salon west of Trinsic, she offered guidance on the past, the present, and the future.

Adammair watched her with pride and affection, his companion in so many adventures, and now she had found a measure of fame, rumors of her skill with the tarot spreading from Trinsic to Vesper to Cove, so that men and women came to her for guidance on the path of fate.


Only a week before, they had opened the doors of her Salon in a grand reception, unveiled the chamber wrought by Alraune's devoted servants, infused with her essence, dominated by a portrait, painted by Captain Kaelyn of the Trinsic guards, a junction point in time and space where the little windows of the tarot might open more freely into the world of dreams and hope, dread and desire.

At the reception, with food and drink supplied by the master chef Stewan Seagull, Adam and Alraune had greeted a crowd of the curious from all across Sosaria. Even the militia of Vesper, in a moment of truce midst the seemingly endless war against Trinsic, had shared bread and ale and there had been no bloodshed, though emotions seethed like a storm-tossed sea among many of those present.


Now they had come to the first day when the Salon was opened to those who wished a reading and Adammair was gratified at how many had come. The chef Stewan; Bevier, a knight of Skara Brae; another man who did not give his name, a Tokunese of somber mien; Foxy, a woman of Kaldor, who sought word of a vanished brother – all wished for Alraune to seek answers in the cards. Others came, not for the readings, but for the company. Keina, the half Drow girl, moved among the crowd, armed with a small bow to keep the mongbats at bay. Men of Kaldor lingered nearby, along with Trinsic guards, the mage Callum Fitzhugh, and the Duke of Trinsic's son Isidore.

Duke Irvyn himself had come, though he wished for his reading to be later, behind closed doors, so that no secrets of state were shared with anyone but Alraune. Alraune already knew secrets she had learned in other readings – mysteries of darkness and light – but she was silent as sunrise with regard to them, discrete as a mountain.

When Adam and Alraune had conceived the Salon, they saw it as a place where Alraune could read the tarot, but also a place where people would gather, and it seemed, on this cool spring eve, as though that vision might be fulfilled. Adam smiled to himself, for he knew this would please his lady, and her wishes were ever his.

Adam watched Alraune as she turned the cards, her dark-skinned beauty and hair the color of moonlight, eyes that danced with mischief and desire, and he wondered. If she were to read the cards for him, what would they show? She never withheld the tarot's revelations, even when they were dark as midnight, and Adam knew that sometimes the truth had a price.

Would he be willing to pay it?

The Salon

Adammair and Alraune's Salon is situated in the Old Poste Office, west of Trinsic's west gate and just south of the road (106' 5" S * 29' 48" E). We have not established regular hours yet, but intend to soon – they will either be very late at night (Euro time) or on weekends. We will announce opening times at http://www.f4g.net/forum/index.php. In the meantime, anyone desiring a reading can leave a note on the Salon's bulletin board or a letter in the mailbox. All are welcome.

A Worrying Tale

A folder with some quickly sketched up drawings and a page of scribbled handwriting is left in the office of the Morning Post. The man, who drops it off, is shaking in terror and fails to give out his name. He promptly runs out of the place crying and wailing. The man at the desk decides to pick up the folder and begins to read its contents.

It was a Tuesday Night, a quiet one and I decided to take a walk to the beach for some late night fishing. My wife insists on fish so that the children grow up educated, I can’t image what a difference eating fish is going to make, but either way she’s the boss. I cast out my first line into the water before leaving it to hang on the harness. A comfortable stool was my friend for most of the evening as I often just drifted off to sleep.

I would soon be woken up by rustling in the trees. At first I thought perhaps it was one of those damned Mongbats, so I grabbed my skinning knife and headed up to the tree line to investigate. When I got there, I saw no Mongbat in sight. At first, I thought I must have just been getting a little too tired, but then I saw in the distance a young woman, walking through the trees. By this point, I felt I was still asleep, fantasising about women, but then I realised that I was not sleeping, when I saw the woman approach a dark figure that was lurking in the shadows.

I didn’t wish to alert them to my presence, it all looked very serious, but my curious nature pushed me onward to listen to what they had to say. I sneaked around two or three trees and then decided to hide behind the fourth. I could practically hear them breathe. “I heard the Virturi had returned” the Dark figure spoke. The young girl who faced her was dressed up as some sort of knight, but of no order that I am familiar with. Who are these Virturi?

The Dark Figure claimed to be of a group known as the Temple of Dark Light, what seemed to be a cult of sorts. My heart raced as I tried to remain hidden, listening in on their conversation, picking up bits of information such as “the world will be consumed in flame” and something called the “Sword of Nine”. The Knight claimed that the Virtues would stop them, but I can’t see how.


This cult or whoever they are, were looking for blood and death, they were looking for this relic of theirs and they were looking for revenge on the ones who had taken it, offering painful and merciless torture to those who held it. The Dark Figure left the Knight alone to remain in the woods. She stood there for a while and then after a few moments broke down on the floor in tears. She seemed to brave, but I could actually see now that she was truly frightened.

I swiftly left the area and returned to the beach to pack up and return home. I had to get all this information written down, who knows what chaos was about to break out and the wife and kids will be wondering where I am.

For the record, I didn’t catch any fish.

It is with deep regret that I must announce the passing of Chancellor Michael of Spiritwood University. He died as he lived, in his constant attempt to combat evil and ignorance in the world. May he now find peace in whatever place he is.

A memorial service will be arranged, but in the meantime, I will raise a glass to his memory at the Trinsic Rose on Friday 20th April. Any who wish to join me there are most welcome to do so.

Going Underground

Has anyone seen Iym’iara Von’Sah recently? No one has seemed to have seen the beloved daughter of Kalannar and Moiraine for some time. Is she yet another victim of the despicable Vierna? Come to think of it, no one has seen any Von’Sah recently and the streets of Trinsic are a much more pleasant place with them not around. Has Vierna done what she always threatened to do? Does she now control all the drow in Sosaria?

Something else to think about. What are drow up to in Papua? Reports of sightings in and around that area have reached my ears. So what are they up to? This intrepid reporter intends to find out.

Stewan was “buying bread” according to eye-witnesses – but we all know Callum only eats raw meat so is Stewan trying to tame the starry-eyed Shadowcourtier? Or is Stewan falling into bad habits?

Saturday Night saw the city of Trinsic hosting the Spring Fair. The festival was mostly peaceful except for some incidences of petty theft of the type which always accompany large crowds of onlookers gathered. The cutpurse would have no career without those dizzy onlookers and revelers!
There was a market which sold all manner of goods form leather, furniture and even small puppies!

After this there was entertainment by the famous Emily who sung, told jokes and generally entertained the crowd who were much delighted.

Isidore Middlethorn introduced and hosted the tournament where groups of three fought – there was much excitement and much blood was spilt in the name of entertainment – however, it would appear that the winners were from noen other than Trinsic’s deadly enemies Vesper!

Thugs Try and Sieze the Duke’s Son!

It has been reported that during or rather after the Spring Festival that some brigands tried to kidnap Isidore Middlethorn. It was down to Captain Kaelyn and Hugo to capture the two outlaws.

According to eye witnesses “One with the name of Weston had helped one of the criminals and was put on stocks and fined 2000 gold for his release.”

The other one who refused to tell his name attacked various Duchy Citizens and Guards in the cells and generally caused a right royal rumpus! [perhaps better employed in the tournament?] He received “fifteen lashes and a banishment of one week” and was then thrown out of town where he belongs.

Spiritwood Lecture a Success!

Thanks go out from the Poste to both Spiritwood and the Duke of Trinsic for his generous sponsorship of the University and the new upcoming lecture series.

In brief it was a crowd of would-be scholars mostly loyalists with a Kaldorian, Serfs and Duchy folk there as well as Amantala the famous auctioneer! The Skara Brae knights were represented also and nobility in the form of both Duke [Ducky] Irvyn and Edmund [no nickname] Fairholme were there.

Some debate between Iljian of the Duchy and the teacher as this intrepid reporter sadly succumbed to the combination of too much study and late nights in felluca leaving him sound asleep.


You will work with ‘Control and services’ as your specialty - though we seek much more then a mere bouncer.
Your most important task is to keep the atmosphere civil, and receive the guests and make them feel as home; a amusing remark, a cool head, and popularity are the qualities we seek.

Name: The illustrious Samsca of Olk, First Governor of Vespenland, Mayor of West Vesper, Favoured son of our most valiant Republic, Destroyer of those who consider themselves our foes, Manager of the Vesperian Company for acquisition of Ore, Once Sergeant within the Militia, Once Captain within the Militia, Once Baron and Governor of Cove and so forth and so forth and so forth.

Domestic Policy:
I intend to continue a policy aiming towards that of civil harmony within our fair Republic. I propose a re-application of provincial titles, largely within the purview of the Baronial position. While the titles of Mayor of Main Vesper and Mayor of West Vesper shall remain there shall also be Governorships of Vespenland, Vespenia, Vesparicia and Windemere. We shall have maps drawn up to ensure that all within and without the Republic properly know these regions and what is entailed within these boundaries. I am of the mind that one of these Governorships should be bound to the person or persons who lead the Militia however such shall be subject to debate with our most honourable friend presently in that position at a later date. I suspect one shall go to the Hospitaller and the Dragoni should they be willing to take up the mantle. A council of these renowned folk may be conjured if there is sufficient interest on their behalf to ensure that Baronial choices are not in anyway autocratic.

While our laws shall be strict they shall focus primarily upon those who are foreigners within our sacred and liberated land. Torture upon those who are Vesperian citizens shall be outlawed however it is an unfortunate necessity in these harsh times to deal with our foes whose treachery knows no bounds. Treachery against the state of the Republic along with other harsh crimes such as murder shall be punishable by death as is presently the case. While it is clearly vital that the Militia is respected amongst the common citizenry it is also vital that any abuse of their position is dealt with.

In regards to the economy I propose that the Vesperian nation ensures a subsidy towards the Swaggers inn for the purposes of lowering the price of Ale to five or six coins a bottle. This shall ensure that the poorest can acquire the ale that is every Vesperian’s birthright. Other schemes shall be put forward to ensure the poorest are able to prosper either in the Militia or in performing other vital services for our Nation’s survival. We shall seek to ensure that the richest do not profit over much for their work to the negative effect upon the greater mass of the population. On the other hand it is right and proper that those who carry the most responsibilities receive the greatest reward.

Foreign Policy.
I intend to continue our rightful and just wars in the pursuit of freedom for our brethren however foreign they may be. Our fellow common folk in the south cry out for liberty from the yoke of their inbred overlords and their Drowish henchmen. With this in mind any allies who are of a suitably honourable disposition shall receive succour from our plentiful nation and the encouragement of seeing our hosts aid them upon the field of battle. I say honourable because I do not believe it befits the glory of our fair republic to aid any group of feral thugs who claim to oppose the Loyalists. We are a civilised and free nation and not the hateful bunch of barbarians that those outside the Republic seek to paint us. I propose that Trinsic must either embrace the Revolution or we shall enforce one by the sword for their insults against us are many and we can stand them no longer.

I have spoke for now about the south so let us turn to the north. While our great and noble victory liberated West Vesper the untamed dogs of Klion still lurk out there to the west. I propose we strengthen our alliance with Cove to finally break the back of the Yewish horde. I glance at a map and see that those famous traitors to our Nation, the Knights Templar lurk menacingly upon their borders. If these vermin seek to aid the Yewish I propose they be eliminated and their lands should be handed as a gift to our Covian friends. With the north passes properly taken any Yewish incursion should be impossible and for a time we can contend with freeing the South.

I intend of course to provide succour for those in need, such as our free Brethren in Haven after that tragic catastrophe so affected that state.

Military Regards.
While I intend to see that the right things occur within the Militia and certain folk receive certain rights and duties that are their due but I shall primarily leave this within the hands of the leader of the Vesperian Militia who shall of course be in the purview of the Baron but shall ultimately have the responsibility for running that fine instrument of our Nation’s will. I might see fit to instigate an “executor” rank (of which the title is yet to be determined) to ensure that the Baron receives first rate information on the goings on within the Militia and that certain vital tasks outside the activity of the Militia mainstream occur but that shall require conversation with whichever good friend is granted the lofty responsibility of being Captain.

I shall of course ensure that all Vesper’s resources are put forward in ensuring our security and as such the expansion of our Militia to keep our borders safe and increase the sphere that the world knows to be free shall continue.

Vesper remains a bastion of light in an otherwise dark world. We must see that this light of liberty is kept. We must seek that Vesper becomes perfection upon Sosaria. We must see that this freedom is granted too all who would take off the loyalist chains of oppression wherever they may be. While the number of our foes remains many we have right on our side and given time enough we shall prevail.

Vesper Elections tonight
Will Twothumb clinge to power, or will fresh blood take over the control of the North?


Tonight, at 8 pm Britannian Summer Time, the former jailhouse in Vesper will open its doors for the first eager voters. The current baron of Vesper, Kain Twothumb, has been in position for decades, and there seems to be great expectations as to his political programme which promises both the establishment of militia outposts closer to Britannian borders, and continued support to Lady Tabbithas Knight Council to reduce crime. There are somewhat less joy for his proposal of introducing tax, however.

There are several opponents, among them the Illustrious Samsca of Olk, now mayor of West Vesper (Minoc, ed.), promising that «torture upon those who are Vesperian citizens shall be outlawed,» leaving the Poste wondering whether it was allowed in the first place.

One of the more suprising candidates is the retired Duke of Trinsic, Ikus Middlethorn, who proposes that Vesper will join the Kingdom as a crown city, along with introducing a grant of a thousand gold pieces for every new business that is founded. To inspire and encourage the creation of new jobs he also claims that with the introduction of Virtue, children will be guided into becoming productive and law-abiding citizens. Ikus' younger cousin, Irvyn, the current Duke of Trinsic, supports his candidacy. Lord Ikus ensured us that his family had a long tradition of building understanding and peace, with a foundation on virtue, and that his motivation for becoming Vesper baron is not in opposition to the current baron, Kain Twothumb, which is an old personal friend. Lord Ikus' foreign policy seems to be one of the few without the intention of bringing more war to Vesper.

One of the other Vesperian-based candidates, Geronimo «Gnomy» son of a Gnome, told us his most important single goal would be to open free seatrade between Trinsic and Vesper. This would, he claims, both create more jobs and expand Vespers markets. In addition, a lumbermill will be built in Vesper. But overly, the single most important benefit for Vesper would be to have steady imports of Trinsican wine.

Elliot Heath, marshal of the Knights Hospitallers, is also running for baron, claiming that he sees «no reason for West Vesper (formerly known as Minoc) to be ruled seperately,» the direct opposite domestic policy of Olk Samsca (Mayor of West Vesper). Mr Heaths goal as baron, and leader, of the Town of Vesper, would be to simplify the ruling of Vesper, making his rule one «marked by actions» and «not endless words or ineffective political posturing».

Baron of Vesper, Kain Twothumb was asked for a comment on the upcoming elections, and about his secret for staying in power for so long, but the Poste was told to «get away from me you filthy pirayhas», showing that the Baron was all too busy with the preparations for his electorial campaign.

A Guide to Courtly Conduct: Entering a New City

In my short time in Courtly life, I have noted that a number of teachings given to me by my father seem forgotten in the modern world of a Nobles Court. Loss of such behaviours sees the downfall of our civilised culture, and the return to a a time passed where barbarians ruled the lands. As such, I have concluded that I shall write a series of articles relating to how a man of status should behave in Courtly Circles.

The first in my series of articles shall be Entry to a new city, in which you intend on taking -at least temporary - residence, or in which your actions shall be of note, be that positive of negative.

When entering a city, a man of status shall find a herald or page to act on his behalf (I tend to find the serf classes under take this role sufficiently well for a crown of gold, a bath and a new outfit) announcing the arrival of said man of status, and present gifts to his host. Once placing a page into your employ, make it known that you wish to speak with the host - the host being the most senior member of the Nobles court present at that time. Whilst arrangements are being made to facilitate this introduction, spend some time learning of the host - this will better enable a man of status to present appropriate gifts.

When the time comes, be led to the host - stand slightly back of your page and allow your page to introduce you - standard introduction would detail your own name, your family name, your city of origin and your most notable achievement. Allow the page to present your gift, and do not approach the host until the gift is accepted, and you are invited to proceed.

The host shall accept the gift and begin a dialogue with the man of status - inviting the man of status to describe his reasons for entering the city. These shall be given concisely, and never shall permission be demanded to undertake completion of your reasoning, it shall be requested from the host - who, unless justifiable, shall accept said reason or reject and offer alternative courses of action. At this time, a host may pass on the man of status to an agent whom he, or she, has empowered to act on behalf of them. This person should be treated with similar respect to the host - as this is the voice of the host to you from this point forth. Do not take offence at being passed over in this manner - remember your host will have many important affairs to attend - graciously accept the leave of your host.

If your host is in fact a hostess, proceed as you otherwise would, making a point to control your language, speak softly and under no circumstance curse. A gentleman of status should know the differences between talking to a man, and talking to a woman.
