Vierna

Vierna Hun’ett, second daughter of House Hun’ett, 3rd House of Menzoberranzan, was sent to the surface by her mother, Matron Mother Malice Hun’ett. She was tasked to infiltrate and contact other drow on the surface and report back. Her primary task was to establish a Llothian presence and to establish a Temple to Lloth on the surface.

She soon joined a small band of renegade drow and used this group to her own purposes. From this base she learned there was an established surface House, House Von’Sah. Unfortunately this turned out to be a Vhaerun worshipping house which was totally against the principles and beliefs of Vierna. It soon became apparent that this house was made up of rengade and outcast Von’Sahs forced to live on the surface by the Underdark House. Typical of a male led house, Vierna learned that the Von’Sah family was riddled with division and had a total lack of purpose or ambition.

Whilst collecting all information she could from as many sources as possible, Vierna found that human attitudes to drow were dramatically soured due to the activities of the Von’Sah. The members were no better than a band of aimless thugs intent on causing needless mayhem. They also led a life of debauchery and whoring with humans which in turn led to many half breeds being created. This was of particular disgust to Vierna who believed in uncontaminated bloodlines.

Vierna also found out that the Von’Sah’s criminal activities were shielded and covered up by one Baroness Moiraine, partner to Kalannar Von’Sah, leader of the house. Not only did Vierna find out that the Baroness was herself a half breed, but she also encouraged and indeed took part in many Von’Sah criminal activities. At the same time she hypocritically persecuted other drow for being involved in similar things.

Sickened and disgusted by what she had seen and the fact that the Von’Sah were a disgrace to her race, she resolved to do something about it. Given authority by her mother, she overthrew the leadership of the group she was attached to and began to persuade other non attached drow to join her. Soon she was joined by two Llothian priestesses, one of which was her younger sister Faeryl, sent to aid her by her mother. Vierna mounted as successful campaign of reprisals against the Von’Sah and soon subdued them. She also set about discrediting Moiraine. However this proved more difficult since the corruption she had created ran extremely deep. Moiraine clearly had some hold over the Duke, since he allowed her to get away with whatever she liked. Finding out what that hold was would be the key to Moiraine’s total demise.

With the Von’Sah defeated and all other drow more or less under Vierna’s influence, she set about establishing a Temple to Lloth. During this period she learned that a temple did exist on the surface. However to her despair she also learned that it was destroyed by House Von’Sah in what was known as the "Lloth War".

Her fruitless search brought despair and danger. One day searching a jungle area she was attacked by a monstrous plague beast. After a long struggle, Vierna finally defeated the beast but as it lay in its death throes, it subjected Vierna to a massive amount of deadly poison. Somehow she made it back to her home where her sister Faeryl was able to remove the poison. However Vierna spent a long period in what seemed like a coma…she was almost dead. In fact she had gone through a death experience because when she finally came out of the coma she revealed how she stood before Lloth. Lloth satisfied by what Vierna had so far achieved told her to return, that her time was not up and that she still had much to do.

Heartened by what she experienced, Vierna renewed her efforts. Aided by her companion, Sirendele, Vierna learned from her that a temple did exist. Sirendele recalled something from the distant past and thought she remembered where the temple might be. They both set out in a new search and to their joy found the temple. It stood in the heart of the land undamaged and in glory.

Vierna had in fact been mislead by stories and lies emanating from Von’Sah. The Vhaerun worshippers did not win the "Lloth War" nor was the temple destroyed. The evidence was clear and the temple was surrounded by the skulls and bones of those who attacked it. The wrath of Lloth was unmerciful, the temple was intact and its violators destroyed. Once more the deceit of Von’Sah had been exposed.
Now Vierna is tasked with repairing the damage caused by the Von’Sah criminality and establish links by any means possible with humans holding powerful positions. It is House Hun’ett’s intention to grow even stronger and become first house of Menzoberranzan. Growing richer through trade links is one such avenue.

However there is now a real problem for Vierna. Whilst in the Abyss, Lloth was not the only thing to notice her presence. Vierna is subject to sudden and inexplicable moments of blackouts. A condition which threatens to undermine all she has achieved. Indeed one such bout actually drew her back into the Abyss. It is not known who is trying to draw Vierna back. One thing is certain….it is not Lloth. Her sister Faeryl knows of one way to find out, by confronting a demon from the Demonspawn Pits. However because of the danger, these demons have power second only to the gods themselves, Vierna has explicitly forbidden it.

Will Vierna survive her illness……can she avoid whatever wishes to draw her back into the Abyss?
Can Vierna achieve all her ambitions……….will she become Matron Mother of House Hun’ett?

Will Faeryl defy her sister and attempt to control a powerful demon to save her sister?
