You don't go overly stupid with houses so that you're not getting much food surplus (I pushed it, was a case where bad weather would drop my surplus to -12 or something, but I had the supplies to last it anywho.)

Refineries: You'll want 2x the amount of them as you have the highest out of gold or iron mines. So if you have 15 Gold mines, and 13 Iron mines, you'll want 30 refineries to get the 200% production bonus.

Food / tick: 1824 Very Nice
Bonus: 200% (proc plant)
Bonus: 4% (rank 4)
Wood / tick: 541 Very Nice
Bonus: 200% (lumber mill)
Bonus: 1% (rank 1)
Gold / tick: 715 Very Nice
Bonus: 200% (refinery)
Bonus: 2% (rank 2)
Iron / tick: 723 Very Nice
Bonus: 200% (refinery)
Bonus: 3% (rank 3)
Oil / tick: 183 Very Nice
Bonus: 2% (rank 2)
Knowledge / tick: 63 Very Nice
Bonus: 4% (rank 4)

Like that etc (knowledge is low atm due to being in the -50% phase.)

How do you have so many bonuses (as in the 1% ones!)! My little empire is feeling very poor!

You get them either over time as your workers work, or buy buying the skill increases (My Empire tab, "Buy Skill Increases" link near the bottom right.)

I thought about picking on one of the empires that hasnt done anything but couldnt as you can only attack something with atleast 50% your worth. At the time the only targets I could attack were you and motty
