All my real life friends who play mmorpg's, play wow. I played with them, then I hit lvl 60.
The RP servers were fantastic, especially the first RP-PVP Defias Brotherhood. I had incredible fun with my mates untill I became that fatefull lvl.. I will never forget the "will of sylvanas" which consisted mainly of old UO members. The point ; I'm the kind of guy who despices doing the same thing over again, especially if it involves nagging from fellow players.

I mean it's hilarious, they don't know how many times they have been in "this" dungeon, only that they badly want an armour piece. This armour piece enables them the power to go into the next dungeon, where there is another armour piece! And so on... It does not seem like playing, for me it smells like work. Work which I should be payed to do.
RP, at times, was very hard there as you cannot attack your own faction or rivalling guilds unless you duel them 1vs1 or take them to the pit.. which is kind of awkward when you are attacking in the "heat of the moment". Horde vs Alliance all the way, no room at all for creativity in the game dynamics :P

P.S. I wonder if someone else here were in the "will of sylvanas" in wow?

*edit : this post seem so serious and nagging in the context of the others, actually not my intention. guess I have more issues with this game then I initially thought :P

Even the name sounds bad.

But won't stop the mass of computer nerds screaming FOR THE HORDE at their computers weeing themselves in excitement being able to finally be a paladin.

I think they really screwed up there, That was the only unique thing to Horde, Alliance and really the only thing that made you choose. Well actually, I chose Alliance because I though all Horde were terribly Ugly, In terms of Ugly and Graphically Ugly. Tauren have no boots!!

I refuse to play WoW on principle alone.. that and I've barely heard anything truly good said about it. And the graphics.. urgh. That same kind of style's put me off the new Warhammer MMO too.

Its funny, I have just the opposite view of the game of most.

I didn't mind the repeatedly going through the same dungeon, so long as it was with "good" people. Thats highly elitist and obviously it helps if they are friendly, but when your burning through quickly without much time wasted its good fun.

However when going through UBRS takes you 3 hours because your with a party who are possibly the least capable you have ever met it just causes me to just lose the will to play the game ever again.

Raiding is much the same. I was in a guild which were never that serious, but had a good group of people and 50% no hopers. If the good group were on, you could effectively zip through ZG, MC etc and it was good fun. With the bad group on you were wiping at the snake boss or just the first mobs in MC.

That and I dislike what they did to the mage class in regards to PvP. It would probably be okay, but the fact I constantly meet warlocks who can do pretty much anything I can do but better is a major annoyance.
Although I am sure some Warlock will probably appear here and tell me they are fine, mages in general suck/abuse the PvM or so on and so forth.

As for RP.. I guess it exists. Not really my style though.

Got it.

Playing my Belf BB. Love the scenery, history.

Started off in ardent dawn, moved to venture co to get the real rp with pvp.

Mainly play a Undead Mage.

ALready hearing moaning from the lvl 60 crowd about loot in outlands being betetr than stuff took years to get.

You leave my Belfadin alone!

Right now I'm sorting out zipping through the levels of the Belfadin (I've taken time over the quests and such before, so I'm not too fussed about missing out on that stuff, Outlands will be another matter.)

Didn't know whether to continue with my Mage into Outlands, or start my Belfadin, but I really can't be bothered with levelling Motty at the moment ^^

The first 70 is already here, and to lift a quote post about it:
Quote:
The first level 70 dinged at 4:04 am (CET) on Januar 17, 2007.

Time played from 60 to 70: 28 hours

Click me for a pic

Player name: Gullerbone

Character name: Gawell

Class: Mage

Server: Archimonde (EU - PvP)

French Guild: Millenium

Interview

[WoR]Teza: Can you introduce yourself quickly in a few words?

Gullerbone: I am french and 24 years old, a member of Millenium (french guild) since 1-2 months and I was the one playing the mage called Gawell for this exp rush, eventually I will reroll shaman to complete my PvP arena team.

[WoR]Teza: Whats your played time from 60 to 70? Which zone were you in when you reached lvl 70?

Gullerbone: It took me 28 hours to get from 60 to 70, and dinged 70 at 4:04 am (CET) on Januar 17. I was in Netherstorm (subzone: Mana forge) when i reached lvl 70.

[WoR]Teza: What was your preparation? How did you make it in such a short time?

Gullerbone: Cau (the 1st european lvl 60) and I planned the exp route step by steps, trying everything to make sure it was the most approriate, the groups organization with the guild Millenium and their members. Each member rotated using a definite order to help me to grind on mobs, mostly with AE, surrounded with several guildmates healers, tanks, pullers etc...

[WoR]Teza: How many people were involved in your leveling project?

Gullerbone: All 40 members were involved; Milleniums member were assigned to specific tasks and planning inorder to keep me leveling and the maximum rate.

[WoR]Teza: Was it 10-20 or more people killing mobs after you tagged them?

Gullerbone: Well at first we had be only 5 (during the first 10 hours or so) so that 10 of the members could get lvl 62. then in the morning we were 15 inorder to kill the mobs at a faster rate. Finally in the evening, everyone was involved and we could gather a 35 man raid to help me in netherstorm with our newly lvl 62 doing most of the job.

[WoR]Teza: Right, were you the only one playing Gawell from 60 to 70 for the whole duration 28 hours?

Gullerbone: I sure did, I slept form 2 to 10pm on monday (waked up 2 hours before TBC launch),so the physical preparation was a part of the plan.

[WoR]Teza: Fine, any last words?

Gullerbone: It has been a pleasure to do this with Millenium, I hope we come across other similar challenges in the futur, I am very gratefull to every Millenium members.

kaelith

the rp style on wow is as varied as it was in UO when UO had a gazillion players.

you will also get told there is no rp in wow - which is very untrue

ive seen and taken part in rp which far exceeds some rp in todays Uo. ive seen crap attempts at rp in wow. etc etc

ive seen real hardcore rpers in wow

its all abotu finding what you want . if you look hard enough and invest enough time you will find in any mmog what you want. the more you give the more you get back =)

yeh, raidings fun and all, enjoyed it, not going to bitch about my gear being instantly outclassed. Once you've completed BWL or MC raiding made the game a chore the work in consumable and gold farming inorder to progress quickly in Naxxramus and AQ40 was too much for me, not interested in playing it as a chore + I went alittle over the top on as far as being serious about it. If I go back it'll be for fun, pvp etc.

If you take WoW chilled, enjoy the levelling, its much better then if you powergame to max level. I enjoyed the levelling part of my shaman ALOT more then the levelling part of my rogue simply because I chilled out with my shaman and powergamed on the rogue. although rogue was much much more fun at 60

Got to say I'm not a fan of the server system in WoW, splitting pvp and pve is a good idea definately but I think it'd have been a much better idea to do away with rp servers and integrate them into the community much more, just like SOE did with SWG and OSI did with UO (might be more who do this but I have personal experience of these games).

On a scary side note, just before I quit I played a female nelf druid for abit on Ravenholdt rppvp, amazing the difference with which you get treated by people in general when your a "hawt" female elf...... CAT DPS GO!

RP did atleast exist there in the beginning. This example is from when the Defias Brotherhood opened and had lasted for a month or so. Birth of RP servers with PVP as well. The first RP servers in WoW lacked the possibilty of PVP actually.

We were gathered over 200 players in arena. No one attacked, that's the only place everyone can attack anyone. It lasted for 3 hours with speeches about to cooperate to kill the alliance, a particular guild as well. As we were quite a few former UO players (my guild), mostly UD, we just basicly wanted everyone to die, couldn't care less for who, so we were in :P The alliance raided and tried to siege the arena colluseum, but there were a really cool rank and file troop of orcs and etc outside.
But no one really attempted to sabotage. One IC (orc I believe) assasination attemt on the troll emperor of the "2nd gurubashi empire". Wish I saved the screenshots. I read later that 3 GM's attended as well.

A big problem with roleplaying undead was that we killed "cilvilian" NPC's when attacking towns, which gave us so many penalty points compared to the other guilds.
