Why aren't you playing it now? Cause I guarantee you those are the same reasons you wont be playing it once you hit level 70.

I'm sure the game is great. I've played it briefly, but my heart wasn't really in it. Shame that "content" seems to equate to whacking in ten more levels to grind through when frankly they could just keep it at level 60, and design more content for players to explore without an onus on XP gains.

From what little I've played of the game, it certainly has lovely sound and ambience, and it's a fine example of a level based, race/class defined online game. I just wish they could have done what Guildwars did, and put in a low level cap and then just designed 3/4 of the game for top level characters to explore and adventure in, rather than create a conveyor belt of content that's sole purpose is to raise the level of the character.

My brother plays WoW a bit, so when the expansion pack comes out, I'll certainly have a look.

I still do play World of warcraft and enjoy it a lot. I'm generally not a fan of levelling games, but having spent so many years hoping that UO would actually have something to it again rather than just being a chat room with avatars, it does make a welcome change. I hear a lot of complaints about WoW that say there's little endgame content, yet I've been happily playing the game since it was released and curiously I've found endless things to do at level 60 *shrugs* I still haven't done everything I want to in the game, so I'm not sure what gives them that impression *chuckles*

I do agree though that whatever reasons made you stop playing before will still be there when you come back. Its the same with any game really. Think carefully about why you stopped playing the first time, it could save you money.

Once something about that game no longer holds your interest enough to get you to log in or want to pay the subscription fee, no shiney new expansion is going to make things any better.

The expansion is indeed out on January 16th (allegedly) and there are two versions, the standard and the collectors edition. No idea on price, but then these things tend to vary dependant on where you buy them anyway.

Feel free to PM me if you have more specific questions and I'll do my best to answer things for you.

At least 50% of the game is designed for level 60 characters, unfortunaly for most of it you will need to be in a guild

But the expansion looks like its adding more for the solo player, with epic dungeons not needing the 40+ they do now

Surley that is further proof this is a 'game' and not an 'experience' like say Ultima Online.

Indeed, as its designed to be a game...

As an Experience, UO died out long ago in my vue, now all it is people clinging to what was once good and fantastic.

Now its just a glorified chat room with pixels where 75% of those that play it spend more time talking and moaning about it on message boardsthan actually having fun.

There are of course a few exceptions to this rule, but the only thing that keeps UO going is the fact that people play it because thier friends play it. It formed a community long ago and people stick because of that community, not because of the game (Or 'experience')

Easy to prove, if none of your friends still played UO, would you still play? (I reckon 90% would say no...)

Its no point turning this into a UO vs WoW debate...they are different games and it wasn't what the original poster wanted to know.

I would say that is very true. I only came back to Ultima Online because I missed the roleplaying and couldn't find any on World Of Warcraft. I loved World of Warcraft but the thing was I kept on making too many character classes because I wanted to test everything out, But because of that I found a class I liked most - Paladin. [I wanna try Alliance Shaman too!].

I was wondering will this new content add anything for the lower levels or is it all for high levels. I mean it's no problem because If I focussed on a character I could prolly get lvl 30 in about a week. I was wondering.. Would anyone like to take me under their wing if they play WoW. I'd love to know a good shard, And wether to be Horde Or Alliance. Seeming as now there's no Horde or Alliance class speciality [Bad & Good I think]. As i'm going to have to make a new account because I totally forgot my account details and my secret question, And the last 4 digits of the credit card.. Good ol' remembering me.

If it is roleplaying you want to come back for, there's probably no point. People are still playing WoW for the gameplay, and decent RP communities rarely seem to kick in until the wish to actually play the game has worn off. UO for example didn't get tight RP communities until the game had been about for several years.
Sure, people were about that did RP, but the sort of RP community that most UO players have come to take for granted just didn't work then.

The expansion itself will only really have a small amount of things to add for the low level user. The lower level side of the game is really only designed for people to learn to play their characters and then progress on to the endgame content. Of the new additions, you would be able to access a new profession and two new races (complete with their new starting areas). The rest of the content will be in the new area known as 'The Outlands' which is designed for characters of level 60 or higher.

The choice of Horde/ Alliance is really just a personal preference. There's no real benefit to either side, there are generally more Alliance about than Horde as they seem to be preferred but just go with whatever seems to work for you.

Server would depend on what sort of game you want to be playing as there are now 4 server types. Generally the decisions there are based on whether you want to be trying to find some semblence of RP (although my note above still tends to hold true even on RP servers), whether you wish to have a server where the PvP options are always on...or even both.

Whilst there are many people out there willing to give a hand and advice to new people, you will rarely find anyone prepared to do it all for you, as that means you'll never learn how to play your character. In general guilds will usually give you people to talk to as you find out what the game is about for yourself, and then aid you with the few bits that are just a little too hard for you to do alone (elite quests and instances).

Took me a while to find decent RP on wow, but it is there and can be found without even looking that hard. Its not and wont ever be on the scale of what uo can give, but then again, I dont think it should be. That'll be the major difference between the two games for me. WOW, gives like a more relaxed fun approach, UO tends to get too serious with sometimes the barriers of acceptance getting too pushed.

Can you lot tell me what realms your on? Maybe soon i'll re-install Wow and start playing. I am starting to get bored of UO as I do, It;'s because sure Rp's alright. Well use to be alright. But the gameplay's rubbish, training's hard and even if your ub3r maxed out you still suck.

Rp use to be alright, people use to do what they wanted and everyone was having fun but too many rules ruined it I think. And trying to preserve the past too I think, We need to move on in UO.

Erm, Also for WoW, Tlel me your realm and wether your alliance or horde!
