We will be performing a forum transfer for the Ultima Online forums from F4G to UOF on the evening of Wednesday 30th September.

For those who have accounts on F4G and UOF, can you please ensure you use the same email address for the accounts. This will allow the system to recognise, and correctly link the accounts. Even if the account names aren't the same, they should be merged into your UOF name.

Those of you who do not have accounts on UOF do not need to worry. These accounts will be transferred providing there are no other accounts with that name on UOF. In the case of conflict with existing UOF usernames, the system will automatically prefix them with imported_ (for example, imported_username)

Please pass this message on to others who use the forums, so that the message will spread quicker.

FAQ:
Will our guild forums have all the posts they had before?
Yes, the UO forums that are ported over will have their posts, be they stickied, closed, or normal.

What about our private forums?
Private forums will also carry across, and we will be making sure that group memberships retain their access rights where required.

Will I still be able to view my Private Messages?
Private messages will also be transferred.

What about my user profile? My title, avatar, signature, etc?
They will also be carried across. If you have an existing UOF account, these will be overwritten with the F4G details.

I was a moderator on xyz before the transfer, will I still be on UOF?
Moderators will still be moderators on their new forums. However the moderator setup on UOF is different, so the Moderator membergroup will not be applied to your accounts.

Can I change my name if it ends up imported_?
Yes, we can change your username. Additionally, if it is due to email addresses that do not match then we can merge the account. If it is due to two people choosing the same name, unfortunately we cannot merge them.

My guild, xyz, has a custom colour scheme. Will we keep this?
Yes, we will be transferring the colour schemes.

Due to it being better in the whole for the Europa UO side of things to be in one central place and other benefits, its been decided and agreed upon (through contact with the GM's and a high number of representatives of the Europa UO side of things) that the move can and is going to happen.

Peoples accounts, threads and forums will be moved as smoothly as possible between the two forums and we hope that everything will go as planned

hehe *pats iljian* some things will undoubtedly be different with the change, some maybe a small difference in speed, some things like more news, more people reading things and more feedback and potentially...just more..beneficial for the people who play UO. Times change and with time, other things have to go along to provide a better service and opportunities for people.

Will the forums remain intact and will the existing mods still be in place?

The forums will remain as in A^K have their forums, DoT have their forums, Thf have their forums, etc etc.

These will be ported across with their posts, along with the usergroups for private forums.

Mods here should be mods on their boards once on UOF.

Speed wise, it's more than likely because the forums are hosted in a Texas datacentre, as opposed to somewhere in the EU

And what do you mean by nicer? Is there something in paticular you don't like?
If it's style/theme/colour related, we can no doubt import the current theme F4G uses and you can use that.

(Which might even speed up the forum a little, as it's not as heavy as the current UOForums theme)

It's like staying at a friends after you've been made homeless or something, and tell them to re-decorate to make it look like your old house. S'lame.

Owing to being away on holiday I didn't actually get a chance to comment or question anything about this, so just to be awkward, I now have lots of things I want to know

Devante asked the most obvious question – what’s the projected timescale for this? Are we talking days, weeks, months? Edit - I see you've now answered this too, thank you

Am I correct in assuming all existing posts will be moved no matter how old, and posts which are sticky or closed will remain sticky or closed?

I see you’ve already answered Sally regarding mods retaining mod rights. I think you’ve also answered another question: will we keep existing group memberships or will private forums all have to be applied for again? I think from what you said about usergroups that if someone currently has access to a private forum they’ll still have access to it.

Will there be any redirects set up? If someone uses a bookmark/favourite to go to a forum formerly on F4G, will they just get an error, or would they get a page telling them to go to the UOF boards instead? Or would it automatically take them there?

With regard to signatures, custom avatars, custom user titles, etc: when merging accounts will it cause a problem if they’re different on F4G and UOF or will one just overwrite the other? If so, which?

Similarly with user options such as using forum colours, number of posts to show per page, timezone, etc?

And subscriptions to boards or threads?

Regarding linked accounts, will they stay linked? What if one equivalent account already exists on UOF and the other doesn’t?

For those who end up with the user name Imported_<whatever>, will there be any facility for changing the name?

Will private messages saved on F4G get moved with the accounts?

What about each individual guild’s colour scheme/header? Do we get to take them with us?

Will we get the ability to be invisible when logged in on UOF? (Can’t find it as an option though I might just be being blind.)

They can also be merged with an existing user

PM's - Yes, they are copied across

Guild theme/colours/headers - Yes

Invisible - Yes (as of now), it should show in the options

Redirections - I believe the f4g.net domain will be redirected to the Europa section on uoforums, to avoid confusion
So any links that are bookmarked here, will be redirected to the Europa section, but not individual guilds/forums.

If there's anything UOF doesn't have that you want, all you have to do is suggest it
