A couple days back we attempted to move the forums to a server I'd set up, so that Marty wouldn't have to keep footing the bill for this place, and hopefully stopping the problems we've been having. However, we experienced problems with the new DNS servers not accepting the domain. This led to the forum being unavailable and made it look like it had gone boom once more.

Several of us were getting bombarded with ICQ's, MSN's, and whatnots asking about the server, and since it would have been impossible to send a PM or write a forum post on what was a non-existant board at the time, I thought of the next best thing - to send E-mails so that people know what's going on with the board.

So I went and got a nice mailer, and collated a list of E-mails that it was to send the message to, with each recipient as BCC. Or at least, it was meant to.

So now I've got this E-mail typed up, and I'm tabbing back and forth between ICQ, MSN, and Firefox, and send the E-mail. Moments later "You have mail!" *opens up the E-mail, suddenly thinks "$?%&"*.

I'm now faced with this E-mail, where the addresses that were supposedly meant to be placed into the BCC have been placed into the To: line instead.

I seriously messed up with it big time, and I'm really, really sorry to all of you whom I've let down.
If there was a way I could go and get rid of the E-mails, I'd do it in a heartbeat, but unfortunately there isn't.
I've been meaning to post this when I've had the time to be able to inbetween getting the forums sorted amongst other things.

I should've double checked, and checked again to make sure, but I didn't. I was caught up in the flow of things, and rushing about trying to get things sorted and under control again.

Theres not much else I can do, except to say how sorry I am that this happened, and I can assure you that my best will be done to make sure nothing stupid like that is done again.

Your missing the point I think - he massed out everyones email addresses. Since these addresses are quite often used for peoples UO accounts they are now susceptible to any hackers on the list.

Please bear in mind that sending out mass e-mails with all the recipients listed as to or bcc is, in concept, a very bad thing to do. Instead, using the vBulletins built-in mass mailing system would be a better idea.

Something wrong happening or not doesn't change the fact it was an accident. Nor does it deter from the fact that Moturdrn was simply trying to appease the masses by letting everyone know what was going on, with the best intentions at mind.

But by all means, if you feel you are that infallible as a human being than carry on by being negative, it adds so much to every discussion.

I for one am not highly bothered about this. I have a good spamkiller installed, my username and password have nothing to do with my e-mail, never have, and you're doing a job a lot of us wouldn't have the first clue where to start on. Mistakes happen, tbh, so its absolutely no drama as far as I'm concerned.

(But you'd better get me that nice, expensive birthday present in March, just in case, I have a right rank beyatch lurking within... >.<)

Apart from one email from a chancer who has set up his own gaming forums, that I alerted an admin to (but he already knew), I didn't get any offers of penis extensions, giant bosoms or viagra, well no more than I usually do in my hotmail account!
