Dwarves lived in Underdark and created the cities in there (at least some afaik) before Drows came... Drows just invaded it :P

The best Drow stuff is that by R.A. Salvatore. Thats what I base my drow on usually and no not normally the Drizzit style, though sadly my drow is going that way a bit almost out of necessity.

It comes out of D&D to an extent yes, and their Forgotten Realms setting, which R.A. Salvatore writes for. HIs famous character is Drizzt. But yes, if really interested in where drow came from just do a google search for forgotten realms. It is home to a myriad of races, different kinds of elves etc, different dwarves.

I'm not at all good with the newest flashiest movies, but let me recommend jeunet & caro. They simply make perfect movies. My favourites scheduled for this haloween month;
The city of the lost children (La cit? des enfants perdus), Delicatesse, and (not by them) Rocky Horror Show :P You probably know this but Tim Burton movies are also always heart warming, the corpses bride I just saw, it was wonderfull. And I might recommend, I don't know who did it, but The Brothers Grim.
You may have seen them all however.. I wouldn't be too surprised.

Tim Burton ones Ive seen, but the first you recommend would be "foreign" films for me, so Ill have to seek them out as they woluldnt be mainstream here. Thanks

I should give you a fair (but not very logical) warning about "House of Flying Daggers" and "Hero". They are fairytales at best, but some of the most beautifull scenes in .. uhm.. "martial arts" "cinematonic" history. But well worth seeing.

I cursed Hero for a while and tried to figure it out (make sense of it) , then I saw it again with a lack of perspective, the latter is much better.

*edit : And hello Inara! Welcome (back?) !

*tentatively steps foot into the s-c babbling...*

oh hey, i thought the bouncing chinese vampires were fun. definitely remember that film but not the name.. sheesh..

on another note, i always thought it interesting that with tolkien that most of the elves in middle earth were actually "dark elves", in that only the elves that had traveled west and seen the light of the tree were considered "light" elves (ie Galadriel-long story there) ... but then, i suppose you'd have to have made it through reading the silmarillion to get all the details on that, but hey it will keep you occupied a long time ...

I have that book somewhere and it is tough going to read it. I might pick it up again sometime now I'm older, tried reading it when I was about 14. I also have the book of unfinished tales but not read a great deal of that either.

I want to see house of daggers, I think someone was meant to of been bringing the dvd of it over to me some time.
