Short game review: NWN2

Well, I had low expectations - even people on torrent sites thought they'd been ripped off, and they didn't even pay for it. Must say, it's not so bad really. More of the same, with slightly prettier graphics. Only played it for a couple of hours yet but I think this one shall keep me occupied for a while.

yeah i'd heard bad stuff about it but i wanted to test out my new PC so i bought it anyway. graphics are great, though the camera can get a bit annoying at times

as for the rest of the game it's nothing ground breaking (yet). i'm not a huge RPG fan never really managed to stick them out, this one is entertaining enough that i've played it instead of WoW. as with a lot of rpgs there's a ton of stuff you need to do, and a ton of semi-tedious conversations you need to go through to get quests. combat is ok though working out how you use each character properly is a pain, well probably not for die hard rpg fans, but i'm a point and click kinda guy.

not played with the world builder yet but i have high hopes as the first NWN builder was very cool and this one has amazing graphics to play with

Yes it's visually very nice - other than that the game engine is very similar to NWN1. I'm a big fan, played through NWN1 and it's expansions several times with different classes, and I think I'm going to finish this one as well.

Not yet looked at the toolset, but it will be fun to see what the community does with it. There were a lot of great community modules for NWN1.

heh, never really played baldurs gate

though when rpg's stick to the AD&D rules as closely as NWN2 seems to be (not that i know much about AD&D rules but NWN2 seems heavily reliant on them) then there aint going to be much to set them apart

I agree with Varyne, to be honest. It had so much character depth with all the interactions between party members, their individual quests, and the romances. I was very disappointed when they only allowed one companion in NWN. I also found it (after the initial chapter in the town) rather dull, especially that interminable Fire Giant dungeon...

well my gorup in NWN2 is currently at 4 people (including my char) and currently the rogue/theif is mad that we're "wasting time" looking for some missing bloke, so i think they've overcome those issues from NWN1

but as i mentioned i'm not a huge rpg fan so i've no idea if this is more than you normally get in a rpg

An epic RPG has it all good combat system, grouping, story line etc and IMO BG2 was the last one of those.

Theres been a couple of good ones since, KoToR ( the first one the second one was shit) and vampire :TM come to mind as being almost there and oblivion wasn't bad.

The orginal NWN was more of a RPG tool, i guess if you got into the expansions and user made stuff it might have been ok but i played it for about a week and was sorely disappointed.

If they've actualy added some worth while content i might give it a look tho.
