Capital punishment has been absolutely prohobited in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I am not sure about military law though, but that's not the question! My neck is safe \o/

Except that it has been banned - to carry out the punishment they'd have to break the law... and as it would be classified as murder all of the jury, the judge, the executioner would have to stand trial for murder, or conspiracy to commit murder.

The notion that it still carries the death penalty could be a folk lore much like the "fact" that hackney carriages must carry a bail of hay (which was infact repealed in the 60's)

I thought that her powers only stretched to saying yes or no to a bill drawn up by parliament, and if she said no then they'd only have to get a re-write through parliament again and she'd have no power to stop it.... that and that I think she claim back land... but other than that I think her powers are particularly limited - at least that's what I remember from history - but I didn't pay an awful lot of attention that year... and things like the Magna Carta are boring... so hard to pay attention even when you're not flicking things at the head of the class wally
