Gambling laws in the UK are changing in September. Huge part of it is to do with online gambling. Now most MMORPG games dont like ebay and say its not allowed, Sony however love ebay and bragged about how much money compared to small countries their games generate. They even started there own service to sell goods. And because they have done this in game items have a value, and since there is an element of chance that items drop and these items have a monetary value it will be classed as gambling. Which means they will need a gambling licence to operate in the UK and anyone under 18 wont be allowed to play

Of course you can a sales a sale, and up to last few months at least the PS2 was still outselling all the new stuff, they're probably actualy making a profit on each unit as well unlike the 360/ps3.
