Aye. After i got over the initial disapointment (its not SS3!) it turned out to be a really good game. The monster from the first batch of screenshots was nowhere to be seen thought. http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen002.jpg (large image)

Had I of played it when it first come out I dont think I would of liked it, so didn't buy and just stuck it on the rental list. Finally turned up this week so not far into it. May take me a while to complete it as I dont think my heart can take long play sessions on it.

Bioshock 2 is out next year, different developers which is always a bad sign, plus will more than likely end up as an EA game which is always a bad sign

I'm hoping for an interesting multi-player mode. And I kinda wish they would remake SS2 for the Xbox or something ...

I hope not multiplayer

I think more games like Assassin's Creed, Bioshock and Mass Effect are developed. The market has waaaaay too many multiplayer games, with not enough players (in my opinion) playing each. One of the bad things is achievements - games that effectively encourage you to play the multiplayer side for sometimes ridiculous amounts of time to get 1000 achievements.

But the main thing for me is, with exceptions, the multiplayer side of many games released today never really lives up to much. Typically it never either feels finished or particularly fun for any length of time. This also ties in with what i'd consider split development time that results in a medicore multi and single playermode - also called "a bit of both". Take the Darkness for example - the single player game was ok, but I thought it lacked a lot. There weren't many people (acceptable, it was at night time) but also not many places to go. Using the subway to go between two stations was great at first until you realised that.. that was it. It makes you wonder how good it could have been if they'd scrapped the multiplayer mode, which really is so poor that you're hard pushed to find any servers (sometimes there are none at all). So how are you supposed to get the achievements then??

Games like Bioshock are great and a multiplayer could be interesting too. However, a multiplayer mode can be used as a scapegoat for a lacking singleplayer which is not what they should do. If they have finished the game and have time left over, they should make it even better. The notable exceptions are gears of war and the halo series, which manages to keep a good single-player campaign and online mode.

I want a good long game I can play over and over with a reason to. The first title in any of the three series above I think will be the best of them all, because those games had no eager fans waiting for a new installment, with no expectations. Any future games have say a year, maybe 2, till they are expected to be released, plus they have to be at least as good, if not better, to satisfy their audiences. And I don't think a multiplayer mode will do the single player any good.

Maybe as an expansion, though.

Too many multiplayer games with crap multiplayer modes is one thing, but Bioshock has the potential of being better ...

I'm thinking of multiplayer co-ops or player vs. monster kind of things. i.e. one player plays a little sister and the other a big daddy - you have to puzzle yourself through a level with the little sister opening doors, activating switches, etc. and the big daddy protects the little sister as a slow-lumbering tank, fighting off splicers who are trying to get ADAM or even other players ...

A further expansion could see splicer CTF and so forth, making use of the various splicer types (brawler, leadhead, houdini, pyro ...).

Alternatively a "Gangs of Rapture" setting in which one side plays for Ryan and the other for Fontaine, for instance ... and you have to solve tasks, etc. to capture points, sections of Rapture or even fight each other like Battlefield.

I agree that there are plenty of multiplayer games out there, most of them with crap MP and hardly any of them with co-op. My girlfriend and I have been trying to find MP co-op and basically find disappointment wherever we look - last time with Dark Messiah of Might and Magic which could have had a great MP co-op mode and ends up getting a crap CTF with swords.
