Glassbooks of the Dreameaters - No definition found for "rimjaw". Did you mean "rimjob"? And for the record, rimjobs aren't exactly rocket science......

There was a seperate book forum once

It was dull and uninteresting and had hardly any posts because it was dull and uninteresting

Here you get a review, a comment AND a surprise
Its like a Kinder Egg, but not sickly chocolate

That's mainly because once people try to seriously describe a book, they seem to feel the need to use the most pretentious language they can think of *chuckles*
I know that when I get drawn in to literary discussion it happens to me too without me realising it.

But whilst I will happily discuss narratives and writing styles in person or even in private correspondence with friends of similar interest, I cannot bear discussing that sort of a topic on a forum as I find myself getting distracted by continual spelling mistakes (especially as most that post about these topics on forums tend to use words they have no idea how to spell - generalisation rather than aiming that at either of our Glassbooks fans by the way).

I've long since decided never to attempt that sort of discussion on a forum as I get nothing from it. That doesn't mean that I have no interest in the topic of course, far from it *grins*

[edit] And of course, response will always be limited if you are trying to discuss a book that is currently only available online and has a closed subscription.

If you want to seriously discuss books, the only way to do it properly is to do what I did - go do an English Literature degree. It's great fun!

Though I didn't finish it...... heh

*winks*

I totally enjoyed it actually.

Now I spend my days correcting spelling mistakes *laughs*

Me too...I got half way through and had to quit due to personal circumstances. I was actually getting half decent grades too, which surprised everyone I think, including myself, given my poor track record at school!

Kind of a natural progression for me though. I was the nerd who used to read Dickens for pleasure at 11 years of age (even adults shot me odd looks for that one)....

hehe yeah, I was always reading when younger too.

I remember a free day at junior school when we were allowed to bring in any book we liked to read for the day. I brought in my prized possession (at the time) a nice red leather bound copy of all three part of The Lord of the Rings. I happily hid away in a corner and lost myself in the book *was in heaven*

The teacher then insisted on dragging people up to read excerpts from their book to her and upon selecting several passages at random for me to read back to her, announced that I had memorised it!

Dear god...whilst my reading skill might have been a lot better than that of the children in my class at school (not difficult, it wasn't a very good school) and the book may have been a bit advanced for a child, it was what I read at home. I'd be far more ready to believe that a child might actually enjoy reading and be good at it than that they could memorise an entire copy of all three books of The Lord of the Rings page for page and recall excerpts at will!

Just as well she didn't see my collection of Edgar Allen Poe then...

hehe

Funnily enough, whilst I could always read plenty of classic literature and poetry for hours on end, LoTR bored the pants off me. *shrugs*

At the risk of repeating myself....me too! It's like going against some sacred unwritten rule or something when you say LoTR was boring (though I loved the movies, it made a far far better movie).

There's only one book I found equally boring and that was Robinson Crusoe. And I only read that all the way through because I was forced to when I was doing the degree.

I found that J.R.R.RRRRRRRR(Grrr?) Tolkien just drew every scene out far too much, and that choping 2/3 of it would have made it much better, I think that's why I liked the films - same story minus the waffle. I liked the Hobbit, so was suprised by the sleep inducing trillogy that continued the story of the ring.

I loved the LOTR books - Silmarillion on the other hand...

For me it was a family thing...my family had always loved the book and it was one I'd always been encouraged to read.

Not by any means saying its the best out there or anything. I know many books that are much better written. I still like Tolkien's writing though, more because I love language than anything else.

I merely mentioned that book as it was the one that I had happened to bring into class at the time of the story *grins*
