| still no joy - at least i know it's one of 3 bits though - i'll return the RAM first, if that dont' work I return the CPU and finally the mobo

| ok just try setting up cpu and mobo, if the ram is faulty, it will beep continuously indicating no ram present, if it doesn't post then its a mobo/processor problem |

| hmm guess it's a CPU/mobo problem then [edit] or maybe i tried it without the speaker plugged in [edit 2] no beeps with the speaker plugged in i'm thinking it could be a heat problem though - cpu gets too hot and cuts - though it's very quick not really enough time to do anythign let aalone heat up

| Heat is a likely culprit. If it doesn't even get to POST, it's CPU/mobo or GPU - most mobos will barf during POST if it's RAM or peripherals. Weird that you don't get a beep code though. PSU... Could be it. What are the specs on the one you have? And... how the hell did my weener get dragged into this?! |

| heh tried with a different PSU a higher rated one (one i bought is 450W got a 550W to check with) unless the mobo takes some special sort of PSU i dont' think that is the issue tried to return both CPU and mobo on ebuyer and it got marked "management referal" great so i can't send them off till like tuseday cus it'll be end of monday before i get a RMA number

| It will more than likely be the motherboard, I've had a total of 2 dead on arrival CPU's in 3 years of being in the shop. Heat wise? Possible but not likely. As long as you're fitting the CPU correctly (intel processors go corner to corner, I hate the design of them) it will usually post, then randomly cut out. My money is it being on just a faulty motherboard |
