Seen the mini-series (gotta see that first), seasons 1-2, and the first 3 episodes of season 3. It's good, weird and somewhat unusual for a sci-fi series, but very very well written. Almost on par with Firefly, but with a bit more drama.

Anyone know when it's due to show on UK TV? Seen the series so far, absolutely loved it (though I'll admit I found the pilot a bit slow, and I thought series 2 dragged a little towards the end). But after the stunning finale of series 2 I cant wait for 3... though I'm not sure I'll go as far as downloading it from the net.

People keep telling me I should watch Battlestar Galactica... but I think it has a lot to live up to

Babylon 5 - terrible acting, occasionally dire direction and the CGI now looks very dated, but the story was good (gets a little fuzzy after they had to write an entire series after they'd re-writtn the series before on the premise that they'd not have another series)... but its edgy, its political, it's engaging

Firefly - good all round series, would have been excellent I think if they'd got a couple of seasons (unless Jos Weaden ran out of plot ideas and just got silly like he normally does)

Farscape - best sci-fi acting bar none, good plot and reasonable CGI, only occasionally did they get close enough to the henson made puppets to show they were made of rubber. good plots, very edgey at times...

Space Above and beyond - great fun, woefully under rated (though again bad acting - it seems typical of sci-fi)... good space battles

Stargate SG1... well, it had good effects... and... a bald guy with a shiney thing on his head... ok it was rubbish

So to be good enough it needs lots of great space battles, great plots, something a little more edgy that "we're americans in space aint it great" by way of plots, and decent acting... does it live up to those that came before?

In my mind, yes. No shortage of great space battles I assure you, some very twisted, dark and edgy plots, some great turns and surprises, acting that I'd say is a cut above the rest for the most part. If you've watched all those other series then I'm honestly surprised you've managed to avoid BSG so far.

I took a bit of convincing to come to BSG, having been turned off by the pilot episode (I kind of managed to switch off just before it finally got interesting....) but realised a few episodes later that it had been a mistake to write that one off.

I'd strongly suggest you start watching at the beginning though; BSG is very much arced and you'll spoil yourself many twists and surprises if you jump in halfway through.

hmm slagging off Bab5 AND praising farscape? considereing that makes you the exact opposite of me and i love BSG i wouldn't hold your breath on liking BSG

i'm guessing (tis just a guess mind as i dont' actually have sky tv) that sky 1 will be showing season three sometime soonish, as they normally run about a month or so behind the states (due in part to the huge fecking gap the sifi channel stick in the middle of the season, something which english tv channels don't generally do)

oh and when it comes to liking BSG forget everything about the original crappy series from way back when, this modern one is so much better

I said I like Bab5... but watch it again some time... not only is the delivery of dialogue often awful, but not once when you see a frontal shot of a whole person do they look natural, they're always stood bolt straight upright... B5 is one of my fave series, but not because of the acting, and the number of re-writes dues to actors leaving and being replaced meant that the plot does get a touch sketchy in places. B5 is one of my favourite sci-fi's possibly one of my fave shows, but, you'd have to be blind, or maybe dead not to notice the "quirks"

And the actors in Farscape never once look un-natural, and the dialogue is delivered well everytime... it has more character development than any other sci-fi, it has more emotion than most, and it does what only a very few sci-fi series bother to try, which is to make people seem like people... in most others everyone is a stereotype and never once tries to seem normal...

try watching some B5 - both Ben Browder and Claudia black make some brilliange performances every time... even others in masses of foam rubber and latex masks manage great performances - and I challenge you to find a scene where every single person is standing as though they were nailed to a board - unlike B5 where I would challenge you to find someone looking like they're NOT nailed to a board.

I have B5 on dvd also, I've watched it many times...
