What exactly do you get from the pts in online racing besides more or less pts?

I dont think its more than a ranking system (the points that is).

you can play randoms, either in your continent or worldwide (just japanese at the moment) no americans yet, the ranking system forces you to play with people around your skill level if there are enough otherwise you are lumped with whats available
