my car sprung a leak yesterday, that leak almost turned into a seized engine on the way home, black smoke, engine cutting out, loud grating/clanging sounds, smell of burning oil, you know the usual stuff that lets you know it's time to get a new car.

so i had to walk to work today!!! gah! can't be dealing with exercise at that time of day, it just aint right. got to work and realised i needed to take another shower, not nice at all, heh even worse for the poor saps that sit near me i guess.

people tell me i need to be greener and not drive such a short distance (2 miles), such people don't have to sit next to me at work.

anyone got a car for sale (cheap)?

i need cheap and easy transport, as ridiculous and amusing as i would look on a segway it doesn't meet the "cheap" part of the requirements and physical exercise of any form is a big no on the "easy" part

nah i'm gonna have to go back to the bloke i bought my last two cars from and see if he has another cheap deal (cost of last two cars combined was less than £1000)

pfft why hasn't someone invented a "transporter" yet (star trek style). Damn it people it's 2008, i should be able to get from one place to another without having to put any effort into it! also, where's my flying car?

heh yeah - that last "heap of junk" came with one years MOT and lasted me two years and only cost me £350, that's what i call value for money

Cars for less than £1000 rarely are worth it, they are valued to that amount usually because there is something wrong with them so you would probably be wasting your money when you take it to the garage...
Off the top of my head I know I have a friend selling an black MGB for about £2500, but it is an old car, classy I suppose but if maintenance isn't your thing then probably not worth it, not to mention he lives just south of Manchester and I think you live quite a way away from there right?

heh the only time i paid more than £700 for a car it was a brand new 206 (very shiny couldn't resist)

cars under £1000 can be a bit hit and misss but the last two have lasted a combined 3.5 years, that's where the years MOT comes into it, short of outright engine failure a car with one years MOT is usually driveable for at least half that time

i usually go for cars which don't look nice but funciton ok

If only doing 4 miles or so a day, £3-400 should get you a..well...sorta alright car, used to have a renault 5 that cost me £450, lasted me 4 years fine, used to pass the MOT everytime too, so, possible you can get an alright one, tried the ex police cars? some of those go cheap too, usually really well looked after too servicewise (except the mileage ofc).
